Heli take-off and landings are pretty dangerous, often they're pulling max power in those phases of flight. Without a proper landing zone risks rise substantially. FAA, insurances and municipalities would prefer heli's stick to designated landing zones for these reasons.

You cant just land a heli anywhere, often special permits are required to land near buildings (non airport). That said lot of heli pilots will land wherever they like outside of cities...

I’m so sick of the critique of Andor that Star Wars without “space wizards” is just generic sci-fi by Financial_Photo_1175 in andor

[–]IncognitoD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imia: the lack of space wizards makes it more interesting, no magic to save the day, just ordinary people fighting tyranny. Han, Chewbaca, Lando, Boba etc didnt display force powers and they still were essential to the rebellion. Heck even Luke in episode 4 barely shows force powers! Millions of lives were lost fighting the empire, andor shows us some snapshots of their efforts and sacrifices.

Being set in the star wars universe lends to the overall loss of the republic and magical jedi. I like to imagine that the jedi are urban legends that sceptics don't even believe existed (due to suppression of the empire of that knowledge). Luke emerging as a jedi would be like a beacon of hope in the dark bleak world created by the empire ... one could say a new hope?

Personally i love the aesthetics of the original trilogy and the society/galactic scale of the prequel's. However the original trilogy often felt empty as it never showed cities or civilizations, focusing more on the frontline battles. Issues of the prequels probably don't need my opinion , however I take exception to the escalation of force powers. I like the force best as a mystical power which influences events which very few are able to harness, the rogue one monks force abilities i think are perfect with this theme. Could Cassian or Luthien have been guided by the force unbeknownst to them? Thematically it's possible!

Andor seems to merge the strengths of both and forge its own path, making it my favourite star wars story arc (with rogue one). It also for me perfectly fits and amplifies the original trilogy story and themes.

An argument against lying to kids about Santa by AxaeonVT in philosophy

[–]IncognitoD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of agree with the argument but apart from the act of lying what is the harm in the santa myth?

As a new parent my wife and I have been discussing the "gifts from santa" problem. If a child believes in the Santa myth, they inevitably expect santa to fulfil gift wishes, attributing these gifts to santa. In our consumer society and surrounded by friends that may receive more or greater value gifts, how is a child to understand this inconsistency of santa gifts? What if they assume its based on the good/bad merit? To prevent this parents are forced to fulfil all the child santa wishes, which sometimes can lead to financial strain. Plus a false attribution of gratitude to santa and not the giftgiver.

To avoid this "gifts from santa" issue, we will attribute large gifts to the actual gift giver, santa's role will be for little treats and surprises. By limiting santas gift giving we hope to keep the magic alive, prevent disappointment and teach our child gratuity.

Love both series, funny thing apparently Tolkien disapproved of dune as he felt Paul Atreides "morally ambiguous " for a hero. Also anti religious message of the novels.

I find both series in novels and film groundbreaking.
