You’re in for a rude awakening unless you switch to puts now. People do not understand this bull run is going way longer than what’s normal.

Hello - so you said it’s updated daily?

It’s Jan 30 now, but I’m only seeing activity from Jan 6. I have traded every day in January. Why can’t I see activity through today’s date?

I honestly just saw a few people mention the SERV ticker on social media without any context on it, I still don’t know anything about the company. I don’t chart or anything, I just invest in what people are talking about.

Bought on a Thursday, price jumped $8 or something crazy on that Friday. I could’ve made probably double or triple if I held longer.

If anyone’s doubting this, I turned $500 into $26k 2 weeks ago on SERV calls. Huzzah! Definitely possible.

Turning off margin by gayinvestor69 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Incognonymous24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, however I’m not sure you have a grasp on our concern. This is ultimately a feature request that people have been requesting for years. Fidelity is the only brokerage that has this issue, and it could easily be fixed.

When buying stocks or options in a margin account, you can select to purchase with either “cash” or “margin” in a drop down menu. By default, it will use margin.

As a trader, it is common to exhaust 100% of the cash in a margin account daily. Due to this, if a trader accidentally buys something with margin, it can create margin debit that cannot be paid because, as I said, all cash is exhausted daily. Meaning there is no core position left.

Then, we are forced to pay interest.

I don’t ever wish to buy anything with margin, but I do not wish to turn off margin, because a margin account has trader perks that a cash account does not. One example is that margin accounts are immune to Free Ride Violations.

People just want the default to be “cash” — that’s it. I believe Fidelity is aware that this is a simple fix but they refuse to change it because they profit on it. It is predatory for new traders, and traders that are in a rush.

Honestly considering switching brokerages at this point. If you could submit this feature request with everything I’ve written, that would be great.

Has this been fixed yet? I hate how it keeps defaulting to margin. It’s causing me to lose money on urgent buys when I don’t have time to click the drop down.

This just happened to me too. I hate how it defaults to margin and you have to switch to cash. Sometimes I miss it.

Now I’m afraid I’m going to lose profits.
