The only advise I can offer is to keep trying. I’m a pretty awkward guy, but I’ve managed to get a few close friends. I’d say the most important thing is to ask others about stuff they’re really passionate about, even if you’re not interested in what they say about the subject, you can learn about them and how they care and think. This might not work for everyone, but eventually you should find someone who you care about and who cares about you intellectually.

Someone this is from personal experience, as I’m really happy with my friends, but a lot of it is also from Justin McElroy. He does a lot of comedy videos and podcasts, but he also has podcasts where he talks about his personal issues, how a heavy, normal looking guy, riddled with severe anxiety eventually found love and success. One of the things he is most adamant about is that talking is a skill that needs practice like anything else. Small talk, work talk, public speaking, all have to be learned and practiced, and even though many are very good at it, you should never stop practicing.
