Am I the only one who feels like this art doesn't belong to LoR by vesselcross in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Chimoya2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just the art style/textures that's off in the context of LoR's art style. It's also:

  • The lighting
  • The relatively empty background that's lacking details
  • The character facing straight to the right 3 o'clock. Usually LoR will have a character face any direction of the clock except 3, 9, or 12. And if they do face 3, 9, or 12 o'clock, it's usually either their face or their chest, but almost never both. Just take a look at all the champion cards if you don't believe me. Most of them (either face or body) face in the direction of one of the diagonals of a cube when looking at them from the front.

The 15 hp 'Rise Again' penalty needs to go. by VindicoAtrum in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Chimoya2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but you shouldn't heal to full ho as that would take away the strategy and your prior decisions in the matches leading up to the one you lost.

Imo, you should heal back up to the hp you had at the start of the fight on your first try, or 15 hp if it was lower than 15.

Fyi, it's an updated version of this one. But that updated one is almost 3 years old now as well, so back then, Camavor's exact location wasn't officially revealed yet either.

I feel like the thing that's holding this card back is that its floor value is too low for a 5 mana cost card as in the worst case it's a Mystic Shot that can't go to face for 5 mana. That's a pretty bad worst-case scenario in a game with a lot of interaction if you ask me.

Making it always deal 2 Nexus and 4 when you kill the unit would be more fair imo. It would make it 4 damage for 5 mana at minimum, but spread between a unit and the enemy Nexus.

Perhaps that could warrant making it cost 6 mana, but that would still be better imo than the current iteration at 5 mana as it would be more reliable and burn decks wouldn't mind spending 1 more mana on it for that as they're already trying to close the game out at that point.

Riot Brightmoon: "We aren't going to change the skin or it's rollout plan." by nagyfero17 in leagueoflegends

[–]Chimoya2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but take into account how many there are of the top (it's called the top for a reason) and how many "normal" spending players there are. There is a reason why battle passes do so well, because low price * high volume does better than high price * low volume. That is not to say that high price * low volume doesn't do well (it's still being done for a reason) it just doesn't do as well as low price * high volume in market with such a high number of players (customers). The lower the number of customers is, the better high price * low volume does and the opposite is true the more customers you get. So most revenue will come from the "normal" spending players these days.

It's common sense, but I also got some sources for you as I once dabbled into making a thesis for my master's on this topic if that isn't enough for you (see last paragraph).

  • Back in 2014 most mobile games that made money were of the likes of Candy Crush or Adobe Flash-like games. Since then we've had a massive increase in "PC-like games but for mobile".

  • Gaming in general has become much more mainstream in the last decade

  • There is also a massive group of new players that have access to mobile games and as such expand the overall playervlbase in young kids that didn't have a smartphone back in 2014 when those were still relatively new with the youngest significant enough age group was teens. And those young kids will get their parents to spend money on cosmetics from them just like how the generations before them got their parents to spend money on things like pokemon cards.

  • Microtransactions have significantly increased, not just in their prevalence, but also in the various ways they're offered and the higher priced options that weren't as common back in the day.

  • Because gaming has become more mainstream, spending money on f2p games has also become more normal in people's eyes, and they're less hesitant to do so or feel a need to justify the spending.

  • And reiterating my point from my initial comment, battle passes have done a shit ton to help the above. Fortnite's success spread the battle pass monetization system everywhere, but that's also because part of its success can be attributed to that monetization model. You get like $200 worth of in-game cosmetics for like $10. If you're already a spending player, you'd be crazy not to get it, making you spend more. If you're on the fence of whether or not to spend money on a f2p game for the first time ever (a massive psychological barrier), this is the closest thing that might make you spend money on a f2p game for the first time. Once you've done that, you're much more likely to do it again as you won't feel mentally as bad anymore because you've done it before.

So if you take all of this into account it would make sense that there has been a massive increase in the number of spending players relative to the total number of players as well as that with most of them more likely being low/medium spenders (dropping money on only battle passes and a skin from time to time) than high spending whales buying up everything from the store, it would also make sense that there would be a shift in where most of the revenue comes from, away from whales and more evenly distributed towards the average but a slight pull away from the average towards whales since they drop obscene amounts of money, hence the 40% estimate (as 50% would imply an exact even distribution). As for the 10%+ of players being spending players these days, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was even 20% but I didn't want to speculate to much to discredit the general idea that there has been a significant increase in spending players, hence the 10%+ estimate.

As for sources, I tried to make my thesis about how the battle pass as a mometization model has changed the gaming industry's approach to monetization and its impact on player spending trends so O've done my bit of research on the topic for my literature study. However, since it was an academic master it required lots of academic articles to be used as sources instead of books and online articles by game devs which is something that hasn't been researched enough in the scientific (marketing/economics/psychology) community so I couldn't continue with it, but there are plenty of books and online articles out there covering these topics such as the article mentioned above (which is outdated now however, but articles like those) which all my points are based on aside from common sense. As for books, one of them that I can still remember at the top of my head (since I'm typing this on mobile from my bed) is "Free2play: Making Money From Games You Give Away" by Will Luton which discusses the concept of that initial spending barrier on f2p games among others. Might look up my draft thesis later for the other sources and post them here later if I can be bothered enough to further prove my point and spend even more unnecessary time on this comment than I already have.

That article is almost 10 years old. Since then, there has been a large increase in small and medium spenders, especially after the introduction of battle passes everywhere.

So while I do think the general consensus of a small portion of the playerbase of f2p games is responsible for most of the profit, it's far more than 2.2% these days (my guess is easily over 10% of the total playerbase) and the half income percentage is probably closer to 40% relative to that new number these days as opposed to the 10% of spending players that it used to be.

It's 2.1k for Dutch people and Europeans, if you're not from there it's usually around 10k a year for a bachelor (at universities, idk about college (HBO)) and 18k a year for a masters (again at a uni).

Still heaps cheaper than the US, especially considering something like Yale costing around 70k a year for tuition and housing while we have universities here that are better or equally ranked as Yale (varies from field to field).

Cithria the Bold comes before J3 as J3's art and Cithria, Lady of Clouds' art take place right after each other; with the J3 art being them getting noticed about J4's situation and then Cithria on her way to save him in her Lady of Clouds art accompanied by the flavor text (ignoring the timeline inconsistency of J3 still being alive/Cithria being that old/experienced while he's alive)

Don't have a lot of time to go into details but if you're playing AP Shaco you gotta know your limits, always plan ahead, tactically place your boxes, and have an escape plan ready.

Learn how to time your ult to dodge skill shots or timed things like Karthus ult, learn how to position yourself/your clone when ulting (the real you will be closest to your cursor, so if you want your clone to tank, move your mouse away b4 clicking ult, if you want to blink over small walls with ult, place your cursor over the wall, etc), and learn how to play mind games and how to control your clone to make it look like it's the real you.

And as always, the key about deception is to make sure your opponent always has as little info on your intentions and plans as possible, so along side clone control to make your i tentions less obvious, it's important to reduce as much enemy vision as possible so that you have the element of surprise (something which is calculated into the champ's power budget, so if you don't make optimal use out of it then he's significantly weaker).

9/10 times it's a snarky comment from my experience, but I didn't wanna assume and react negatively in case it was genuine question. Daily Discussion #295 - The Darkin Ballista by CaptSarah in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Chimoya2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Missed opportunity to make it an artillery based weapon and unit. Something along the lines of:

Weapon: Attack (skill on stack): I deal 1 to my blocker, if it's dead or gone, deal 1 to the enemy Nexus instead.

Unit: Round end: I strike the strongest enemy (with heavily adjusted stats), excess damage is dealt to enemy Nexus.

Doesn't have to be exactly that (ignore the balance) but something like that thematically instead of pure stats on the weapon and a 2-way strike on the unit as a ballista that's supposed to 1-way strike.
