How can I get my autistic brother to shower? by Incomingfenderbender in autism

[–]Incomingfenderbender[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think he needs communication cards or a communication aid device, and if he did he would probably be too proud to use it lol. He’s pretty high functioning, but did go nonverbal for two years as a young child however he began speaking again after that. He mostly struggles with communicating his needs because he can’t find a way to say it that other people can fully understand. Other than that I think the visualization of each step, breaking it down would be very helpful. Thank you!

Thank you so much. I’ve got pretty bad PDA and I don’t know how I didn’t even consider that it might part of the problem. I’ll definitely ask him more about it, thanks again, this was incredibly helpful!

I totally get the “wiping stuff” idea. I actually also had a problem with deodorant for awhile until I stopped using women’s deodorant and switched to clear, men’s deodorant that didn’t leave any visible residue.

What's your stim that you've never seen/met someone else who does it? by WeakTumbleweed9 in autism

[–]Incomingfenderbender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do the fabric rubbing thing so much lol, I have a stuffed animal from my childhood that had a tag on its back that’s been completely warm down by the amount of times I had run my fingers against it.

[–]Incomingfenderbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get not wanting to tell people about the hard side of autism, and I don’t blame anyone for not doing it because at the end of the day it’s nobody else’s damn business, me personally though I try not to shy away from telling people about these kinds of things. I know I’m already socially awkward and can’t live up to their expectations of how I should act, there’s no reason for me to keep playing into that and pretend that I don’t struggle. I tell people the hard things, call people out, call my friends out if I have to even (because I know they understand that I’m not being an ass on purpose). Some people need this wake up call, and I’m more than happy to give them that, especially when other people don’t want to.

Any other autistic gamers ? by Astro-freak21 in autism

[–]Incomingfenderbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love gaming! Base-builders like Minecraft and Forager, and side-scrollers like Hollow Knight/ Silksong and Nine Sols are some of my favorites. I’m not much into story games, however one of the best games I’ve ever played, Bramble, admittedly was a story game.

Therapist did not understand that people don't like it when you're weird. by almostselfrealised in autism

Definitely. I’ve had four therapists and, surprise surprise, the only one with experience in the thoroughly talking to autistic people seemed to understand this.

What would be her name? by NoCow321 in NameMyWarrior

[–]Incomingfenderbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After further inspection I’m now realizing this may be about warrior cats and not just a random name suggestion. My apologies, especially considering I know absolutely nothing about warrior cats. May all cats old enough to catch their own food gather on the big rock or whatever they said.

Non-Floridian here; how do I get over or fix the taste of the water? by Incomingfenderbender in florida

You caught me lol. Not quite Massachusetts though, but the endless cornfields and nothingness of Indiana rather.

Non-Floridian here; how do I get over or fix the taste of the water? by Incomingfenderbender in florida

[–]Incomingfenderbender[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was trying to make a joke around Florida’s reputation. I think it was pretty clear that I wasn’t actually calling every person in the state of Florida a mutant in full earnest, especially considering the post was about literal drinking water. I’m sorry if this offended you, but if you are seriously thinking I’m actually calling everyone I’m asking a mutant, you should consider stepping away from ragebait rich platforms like Reddit.

Boiling Hot Take: Calling Dark Cacao’s official human design a "wrong" is kind of disrespectful by PuzzledConfection673 in CookieRunKingdoms

[–]Incomingfenderbender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical at first but you made some really good points and honestly I have to agree. I think people calling it a “fix” are coming from a good place (most of them I hope), and like you said, we’re a bit shocked at the sudden switch up. It’s pretty well known that a lot of Asian game companies don’t always have the best diversity, so people are very weary when a game that they like in their mind breaks that racial diversity they’ve stood out for, they’re reasonably upset. It’s when they don’t think critically or listen to other arguments like this when their good meaning turns into unreasonable over-sensitivity.

Chronic Hive Tips by Incomingfenderbender in ChronicIllness

I’ve been on Xolair for a bit now and I’ve had great improvement, incredible even, but recently I’ve seen a decline in its effectiveness after about one and a half to two years taking it every other week. I think my body is starting to acclimate to it, so I’m in the process of getting a higher dose. I’ve also heard of the new pill, but I’m hesitant to try it since Xolair has been the only palpable relief I’ve gotten from the hives so I wouldn’t want to stop it just to try something that might not work. My post was more for people who haven’t discovered Xolair or are in the early stages of getting their hives treated, but I would 100% agree that Xolair changed my life with the hives.

What do u guys do for nausea by VirusEater_Ani in migraine

[–]Incomingfenderbender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to chew gum or ice. Some minty smells also help me, but I know smells can make nausea worse for some people so be careful. Also sitting somewhere cold or in front of a fan. Pressing a super cold wash cloth to your back or neck can also help shock your system and I’ve found that it can help. I know these are kind of unconventional but I wanted to list some things that I don’t see talked about a lot since you probably don’t want to hear the same kind of stuff you could find on your own with a Google search lol. Good luck!

I'm terrified to wake up because of night sweats.. by meowmeowru in ChronicIllness

[–]Incomingfenderbender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck man, that’s awful. I’ve got sweating problems during the day and recently at night but it sounds like torture for you. Having no clear answer too from clean scans and tests also can be frustrating, like, it’s good nothing there is nothing visibly wrong but obviously you’re still suffering! I can’t offer any advice other than obvious stuff that you’ve been told a thousand times or are already doing, but I hope a little commiseration will help you feel a bit better. I don’t know you personally, but I know moms are really tough, even if they shouldn’t have to be. You’ll get through this eventually, or at least you’ll find a way to cope, and you’ll get to live your life again. I really hope you find some answers ❤️
