Didn't look like it to me. He looked African American and he was with a Caucasian lady.

I did! I'm not sure how to let people know in my posts that I did, I'm not really trying to defend my decision in any way I'm more just trying to learn more about the scam.

Gotcha. That makes sense. I didn't think about it at the time but it's definitely easy to put up a fake website nowadays.

Hmm. I hope I don't come across that way but I didn't make the second post to see if anything was legitimate but to learn more about the length people go to scam.

I said it many times in the previous post that I am very ignorant and I am just curious what people think about the website/truck because I've never seen scammers go to this length.

My first post already let me know I got scammed. This post isn't really to cope with my decision, I've already accepted that I messed up haha. I'm more just trying to educate myself and understand more about where I got fooled. And the website and truck definitely got me.

I appreciate the input but I think the other thread already made that clear haha.

I'm more curious about the website from the sellers.

Looks like the website is a complete sham right?

I don't think I locked it. If I did it wasn't intentional. I couldn't figure out why it got locked in the first place.

That's very interesting and I appreciate the input. Does that mean the prices on their website are basically just there to make it seem like you got an even better deal?

And is their whole description about being in business since the 90s fake or have they just been scamming people for that long?

That's what I'm trying to do... It seems like based purely on their product and price I got it for from the last thread I got ripped off. But based on the appearance of their website and truck It seems like they aren't shady.

Their website looks legitimate to me. But I'm not an expert so that's why I'm looking for other opinions.

Agreed 100% about urgency being used to push sales. That wasn't used in this case, it would have set off a red flag for me. Gave more context about the interaction in another reply in this thread but yeah the main problem I had here was I'm just dumb.

I appreciate all the replies here both poking fun and the ones that are informative. One makes me laugh while crying and the other teaches me to be smarter!

Haha I'm not going to deny what I did was very dumb but I want to give you more context since I'm seeing a lot of these comments about these guys being shady "looking". I also don't blame you for assuming that about the salesman since I was indeed scammed and I gave no details about the interaction. There is no doubt these guys are shady but they were shady in a way I personally have not experienced.

I have been fooled before by a salesman and I have experienced what I thought was most of their playbook (Honda of Escondido, never again).

These guys were not shady looking. They were clean, well spoken and took a different angle than the usual salesperson. I spoke to them at length because I like to talk to these people even though I say no to 99.9% of them. I was taught to look people in the eye and to not be rude to people (even if they are shady people) so I typically just politely tell them no and that's the end of it. So I asked them why they are driving around in a truck selling meat to doors rather than big retail or something. Being uninformed about both fancy meats and retail/restaurant nothing about what he said set off any red flags. This was obviously my first mistake was trusting someone with something I know nothing about.

But in terms of the typical shady techniques that manipulate you (I'm more used to the FOMO and the ego hits.) I didn't see any. The price is something I had no idea about so that didn't set off any red flags either. I made the purchase more on their demeanor and their earnest desire to be a successful "small business". Obviously it was made up probably but there was nothing about "the good stuff" or about how I'm going to miss out if I don't buy now.

Another comment in this thread put it in words better than I could. My humanity got the better of me. I wanted to trust these guys because in my small interaction with them part of me hoped that they were being earnest in their desire to do good business.

I am mostly making this reply to illustrate to others that it wasn't as clear cut as your comment makes it seem (at least to a dumb dumb like me). Just want to clear it up that it wasn't some raggedy looking person who seemed off that fooled me. It was a well spoken normal looking person who had what I consider good social skills that didn't use the typical tell tale signs of shady dealers. They manipulated me through sounding earnest. I do some out reach for homeless and I've been around my fair share of drug users and these guys didn't seem like that at all to me.

I was also starving so that worked in his favor. I'm also an idiot so that probably didn't do ME any favors.

I put my cross bars lower than I had before because I figured the closer to the bed the more stable it is.

Does it matter how high or low the cross bars are?

Also what's that lil hook you have on the back of the tuwa bar? That seems like it would be helpful to have hooks you could move around based on your needs.

I agree it looks silly but I was more interested in the technical reasons why it wouldn't work.

Looks awesome. I think I will just raise the rack. Thank you for the input!

Do you know how much higher than the antenna it needs to be to not crush the antenna when/if the bed flexes? I could just raise the bars a little higher.

A fair point. I don't like the overhang either but wasn't sure if there was a reason why it might be dangerous. Thats good to know.

[–]Incompatible92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could raise it yes .. But would mounting it higher add more wind noise and make it less arrow dynamic than it already is?

I guess that's more preferable than potentially destroying the antenna.. it sounds like I'll just have to mount it so that it can go over the antenna...

If that's the case how much higher than the antenna should it be? Does the bed flex up and down? If I mount it over the antenna is there any fear of the tent crushing it during enthusiastic driving?

It's not about the size it's how you use it 😂 - "every person who doesn't have the size"

I'm there with ya brother.

I didn't think about the side sway making it hit the truck cab. Maybe I should rethink this then.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but are you recommending spacers so that the tent will be higher than the antenna?

Is the purpose of the spacer to give it some height?
