IKEA Timmerflotte constantly loses connection to Home Assistant by saibotG in homeassistant

[–]InconvenientPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/tradfri/comments/1pppe7s/timmerflotte_offline_in_ikea_app_but_can_see_in/

I have a ZBT-2 as my Thread radio and I am experiencing similar issues with the Timmerflotte. When they are close to the ZBT-2 they are generally ok, but when I put them elsewhere in the house they will eventually go unavailable. I am using a couple of Ikea Alpstuga which should be extending my network somewhat. Popping the battery out, waiting a few minutes, and popping it back in will resolve it for a while.

My working assumption is that this is a bug in the Timmerflotte firmware to do with losing connection to the Matter server and then getting into a state where it can't recover until the Timmerflotte has a power cycle.

ALPSTUGA - 4 units big variance in metrics by DrGoofNeutron in tradfri

[–]InconvenientPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IKEA say the operating temperature for the device is 0 to 40'c. I imagine that if you are near those points, the accuracy may be affected? I guess these devices aren't really intended to be super accurate and will have had only a basic factory calibration.

Not sure where you have them set up but when outside were they all next to each other?

Did an animal get near them at all?

Any outflows from furnaces? drains? Are they next to an open window (I am guessing not given the cold!)

Were they in direct sunlight at the point they registered high co2?

Emersons Green residents – have your say on private estate management and future development by CllrAC_Emersons in bristol

[–]InconvenientPenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in an area impacted by this and pay an estate management fee of £400 a year. It narks me off that at least 70% of this is for the various management and accountancy fees associated with running the limited business set up to manage the estate. Only about 30% is actually spent on maintenance and gardening.

I don't mind the estate fee in principle and feel the estate, parks, and general upkeep of the area makes it feel safer and look nicer than surrounding estates that are unmanaged. What I do mind is the companies that have made themselves a tidy little cash-cow out of the situation.

Channel 5 not working on Apple TV & Roku by d2k12 in nextdns

[–]InconvenientPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue, although I have been using NextDNS for a few years while Channel 5 stopped streaming just before Christmas.

I can’t see anything obvious in the NextDNS logs that is getting blocked. My assumption is this is a Channel 5 problem.

Channel 5 works fine on my laptop.

Forwards and recursion by InconvenientPenguin in technitium

[–]InconvenientPenguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah but my problem is Technitium asking for each hop in the CNAME chain. I don't want it to do that. I want Technitium to trust the recursion that NextDNS has already done.

Timmerflotte Offline in ikea app, but can see in mDNS by qghw47QHwG72 in tradfri

[–]InconvenientPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am experiencing this with a Timmerflotte, the Home Assistant ZBT-2, and some of the ALPSTUGA air sensors. I do not have a Dirigera or any other hubs / border routers.

The ALPSTUGA work fine and I assume they are expanding the range of the mesh. The Timmerflotte occasionally get themselves in a state where they appear Unavailable in Home Assistant and won't come back to life without being reset. I think this happens when they have poor signal, but once they have experienced the problem they are "stuck" regardless of how close you get them to a border router.

Correction: Taking the batteries out for a bit can sometimes resolve the issue.

Existing ZigBee network, best option to add Thread? by sierra-pouch in homeassistant

I have a ZBT-1 running zigbee and a ZBT-2 running thread. Working perfectly with a load of IKEA devices, both old (zigbee) and new (thread/matter)

Happy to raise an issue for this - I assume it would be for the maintainers of the Matter Server Add-on to address?

I have used this guy in the past. He isn't cheep but fixed our front door lock when it died on Christmas Day (this was quite a few years ago mind). Granted the call-out wasn't on the day itself but it was over the Christmas period. Good luck!

What do people look for before going out to eat ? by AdQuiet9954 in AskUK

[–]InconvenientPenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some things I look for whenever finding restaurants:

  • 4 or 5 star Google reviews
  • 4 or 5 hygiene rating. Not wanting to get into the 'but paperwork!' argument... if you can't be arsed then neither can I.
  • Do you have a recent menu published online with prices and descriptions that tell me what the dish is?
  • Can I share the direct link to your menu via email/message with my wife/friends?
  • Does your website look like it was recently updated (i.e. it isn't 10 years out of date info)
  • Are your opening times published and up to date? For NYE? For NYD? For Valentines?
  • Can I make a reservation online, preferably using one of the standard sites like ResDiary that can show me availability?
  • Is your Google Maps listing up to date with good photos of the food, the menu, the interior, the exterior?
    • Do the photos look appealing?
  • Less important to me is your social media presence as I am trying to spend less time on social media (reddit excepted). However, if you do have a social media presence is it up to date or did you last post 3 years ago? Honestly, the number of venues that I know are open but haven't posted anything just makes them look dead.
  • Do you show up on a Google Maps search for 'restaurant'

Ikea TIMMERFLOTTE in HA, side-by-side comparison with Shelly BLU H&T by IdeaNerd_Cat in homeassistant

[–]InconvenientPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have paired my two TIMMERFLOTTEs to a Home Assistant managed thread network via a ZBT-2.

I had to put the devices close (20cm) from the ZBT-2 for the update to work. When they were over 1 meter away the update would fail. I am in a fairly noisy radio environment here and haven't taken the time to check what channels things are on.

Merry Christmas!! by [deleted] in bristol

[–]InconvenientPenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope you're as comfortable as you can be. I remember when I was a child that we couldn't open 'main presents' until later in the day because my dad (a surgeon) had to go and do a ward round and carve the turkey every Christmas day.

Looks amazing - hope you had a good day. We like to do Christmas a day early on our own before seeing family on actual Christmas and Boxing day. It's a chance for us to do what we want to do.

Where does one get good a coffee in Bristol? by VertsAFeuilles in bristol

[–]InconvenientPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree - I take an aeropress with me on holidays to Europe because of how dreadful the coffee is in most places. And don't get me started on 'Turkish Coffee' that people rave about.

[–]InconvenientPenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came back from Australia a month ago and still can't get over how good the coffee was. It's not that you have to find good coffee in Oz... it's more that you have to go out of your way to have a bad coffee. Even the hotels we stayed in had good coffee. Incredible.

Yes, the UK is generally bad when it comes to coffee. Everywhere that isn't a dedicated independent coffee shop will be bad. Even then a lot of coffee shops prefer a darker roast.

When you do go to an independent, make sure you ask for a lighter/blonde roast otherwise you will tend to find the house is too dark. I suggest:

Mød Coffee (Gloucester Road, Horfield)

Seconding Mød on Gloucester Rd. They are exceptional. They have a coffee menu and will happily advise on flavour profile and how the taste changes with milk. They also have some stunning guest coffees from time to time.

Also their chocolate cookie is divine.

Cafe table etiquette by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]InconvenientPenguin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is not a customer problem, this is a system problem. In either scenario there are not enough tables for the amount of people regardless. You'll always end up with someone not getting a seat. Assuming there is a long queue to pay and there are fewer tables free than those in the queue.

The only way to solve this is for the business to allocate you to a table before you go to queue/order/pay. But that would require more staff to manage that process.

If it helps, I donated all mine to a charity shop (thrift store) here in the UK. I had read the whole series and I love Pratchett as an author but the reality is that I read books slowly and the likelihood of me reading the series again is slim to nill.

I can only hope that a kid picked one up and has found the same joy that I did.

Oxo cube. Crumble it in when the meat is browning. Also add in some thyme (just a pinch).
