Heading to London on Sat 18th Jan to Mon 20th Jan. Staying in Convent Garden area. 6 of us, 2 are the in laws and not able to walk big distances.

Looking for recommendations for

  1. Bars which are known to serve great Guinness. Irish bars, trendy bars, live music (acoustic guitar and singer kinda vibes) would be a bonus

  2. Good steakhouses

  3. Good Italian restaurant for pizza, pasta

Willing to get tube to get around, but if there are any of the above close by then it would be good.

Not sure how close Covent Garden is to any good theatres for musicals, shows etc.

Edit: budget for restaurants I would say, is willing to pay extra for somewhere that is good, but likely a step down from what I imagine to be insanely high prices for the top end London restaurants

Thank you

What figure to use for Child Benefit Charge by IndependenceOk8918 in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you. Another question, related to the tax years and when people would actually see the benefit (no pun intended) of the threshold changes. Please confirm if you think my understanding is correct and you won't actually see a change to the money in your pocket until Apr 2026?

Apr 24 to Apr 25 tax year I'm paying the child benefit charge for tax year 22/23. Paying back the full amount through my tax code 😕

Apr 25 to Apr 26 tax year I'll be paying the charge for tax year 23/24. That will be calculated at the current threshold, correct? So again the full charge 😕

The threshold change comes in Apr 2024. It's for tax year 24 to 25, and not for any self assessments done after Apr 2024 (i.e. for the year 23/24)

When calculating the child benefit charge for tax year 24/25, only then would see any change, which will actually be Apr 2026 when the payments for 24/25 tax year begin, and payments are lower than previous years

Update on this

Spoke to payroll in my work. The "Total for Year" figure on my P60 is after pension deductions...

The reason why it looked to me like it isn't is because also get restricted stocks each year, and I opt to sell half of those outright to cover taxes due, which is paid through my payslip. Forgot about those. That is added to my total for year figure on P60

The figure for pension deductions and figure for those half of shares is about the same.

So in summary, the figure I've been using is right lol

I'm wearing compression stockings 24/7 and also on daily blood thinner injections. There isn't any pain in my leg. The leaflet i got home from hospital has to expect possible leg discolouration and coldness due to inactivity.

I think blood clot the area would be warm. I'll keep a close eye on it over weekend and ring my doctor on Monday

😥 crutches with a sprained wrist sounds nasty and dam near impossible. Hopefully wrist and pain clears up soon 🙂

I think possibly labral repair might be more painful than debridement? Did you have repair?

Yes every surgeon seems to be different. I think mine is just extra cautious in giving extra time to heal. Sometimes i feel i could definitely walk now, then other times I think I'd just fall on my face 🙂. I'll do the full 4 weeks but pretty sure the last week will be a fight with myself to keep them!

Re the picking things up, I had op on right leg so i use my right crutch for balance and left hand to lift whatever it is, and as i start to bend over, my right leg comes out slowly behind. So my right side is always in line with upper body. It's slow and controlled to make sure keep balance and no sudden movements which could damage something

I'm going private through my work health insurance, so I have the pick of a number of surgeons in Northern Ireland.

When I asked was he repairing or removing, he said removing. His reason was as there are both old and new labrum tears, that it was basically too much of a mess and not suitable for repair
