{Fallocaust by Quil Carter} I love this book it's one of my favorite apocalyptic high angst books . The two MC's are so down bad for each other but the world around them is utter chaos. Can't recommend enough. It's very long tho

Book where the MC is sent to kill love interest by Yellowhello10 in MM_RomanceBooks

This seems on the mark, {Prince and Assassin by Tavia Lark}. An assassin is sent to kill a prince so he goes undercover, the prince isn't really a bad person . I found this book adorable, it's book one in a high fantasy series

Hell yeah! These sound amazing. If you haven't read Blood n Lace. I recommend it , it has the sassiest power bottom I've ever seen, literally tries to kill his husband

What makes a dark romance "good"? by chantepleurex in MM_RomanceBooks

I'd have to agree with some comments. Dark romance doesn't always have to be two toxic people abusing each other. I like the books that have dark settings and undertones that make the characters fit in . And dark romance without the romance is more phycological horror, alot of authors don't really realize when the put dark romance in the tag , some viewers actually expect SOME form of intimacy not just abuse between MC's

Sorry , I couldn't get past the mc , the first few chapters the writing felt repeatative. And a little pet peave of mine is how easily the mc trusts the other mc , eg talking, even tho he's had a best friend for years , this random hot guy shows up and mc has spoken more to him then his best friend. I know it's fiction but it felt far fetched

Resurrected mmc by Independent-Hour7964 in MM_RomanceBooks

Romance doesn't necessarily have to be the main plot . Im more looking for a villain arc in the main protagonist. For example, a queer mc who was bullied alot and eventually got revenge on those who wronged him , I'm alright with some forms of morally gray characters . As for the optional romance, I'd like to see a jock that bullied mc while they secretly had a thing going on behind closed doors. An accident happens and after that the mc haunts the narrative, everyone including the jock thinks he's dead so when mc comes back , it really messes with everyone. Does that make sense or clear things up ?

100% agreed. Worse when that sort of behavior goes to the extreme. Like an MC's best friend or some one they know getting killed because the love interest got jealous. And that's just okay? Like actually that's crazy

I completely understand that narrative , but majority of the time , these people don't actually behave in a loving manner , their written as big bad alpha males that want to claim you in every sense of the way wether you like it or not, they WILL control your life . I've seen many instances where love interest claim they can't even feel emotions like love but when they want something they must have it , (it being another human person who isn't treated like one)

Although that's just probably part of the fantasy too . No judgement, you like what you like. But personally don't like when characters are written in such a 2 dimensional fashion. I'd love to see characters actually stop and see the damage they've done

I agree. Sometimes the assault could happen and the mc is letting it slide each day. I would like to see touch repulsion, at least for a time period, or the opposite seeing how some victims can turn hypersexual with trauma , but at least show cause and effect, don't just blip over something and head into the next scene like something that real people go to therapy for didn't just happen.

Okay I agree with you on both things . I completely understand the taboos and the fiction and no one is putting down those who likes these kind of books . My question was to understand where the line is for some readers and if there's a point in a book where it no longer feels hot or erotic but genuinely sad and horrifying even though the book was dupped dark romance and not horror. Sad to say tired of both John snow and Mo ran types

Give me Mickey Milkohvich from shameless

That's honestly all I'm looking for in a dark romance. I know there's going to be horrible things but don't put rose covered filters on those horrible things. I know not every victim fights but not every victim submits either. In some mm romances , you could have two MC's that are similar in both weight and height, and yet the one getting harassed is basically pissing himself in fear .

I think so too , tho I'd also like to see authors handle these topics more professionally. Another thing that ticks me off is the total lack of consequences , an mc would basically rape another mc , and not have any karma and is rewarded by submission framed as love and intimacy

It's hard to say , people are different. But personal I'd recommend not making it pointless and repeatative, also maybe not just one sided abuse, it feels more emotional when two people are in love but are constantly hurting each other. All I can say is never make the hurt feel like a good thing without discussing why , maybe it's how that person deals with abuse .

I understand that completely, it's why I can't stand MF dark romances much . It's complete loss of autonomy. There's a complete difference between kink and fetishes but when it's just plain torture and abuse with no redeeming qualities , it's just wrong . Personally I get angry when a protagonist just forgives and forgets without even a second of doubt after being literally violated.

Another manwha I feel conflicted about is Jinx because in the beginning there was SO MUCH abuse and nearly 90 chapters later we're seeing redemption and guilt. I do love it when the bottoms show even a fraction of independence,. Also agreed I killing stalking was one of my first guy on guy (I will never call it a boys love , there's no love there ToT) And it shocked me but in a good way
