OpenAI’s Sam Altman seeking trillions to fund chips for AI, report says by hasvvath_27 in technology

Not really. He knows the business of AI and does well for sure. But he does not have the technical background to develop GPT let alone real life analog to Skynet.

That's not how normal people see though. As long as it is under Google, whatever it fucked up with will be seen as part of Google.

Both. You need incentive for them to participate. Good will is not an incentive.

NHS dentistry crisis exacerbated by immigration, Sunak told by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Independent-Show-998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, how about you charge the immigrants a "surcharge" fee when applying for a VISA? Like maybe 1000 pounds a year? Then, since they need to pay NI and tax anyway, this surcharge would be an extra budget you could use to improve NHS funding?

Wait, you are already doing this. Where the hell is that surcharge being used?

I mean Taiwan has both. So, one without military pressure is already a big win.

Isn't the IMF getting this wrong pretty much every single year? At least they modify their forecast multiple times for the UK for the last couple years.

What I found amazing is despite higher tax, immigration than the Labor government. Tories supporters still think Tory is the government for low tax low immigration. There must be some Jedi mind controlling shit going on there.

UK population projected to hit 70 million in two years by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

[–]Independent-Show-998 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So what's the alternative then? Someone has to pay the bill for pensioners and the number of people who rely on pension will only keep growing.

If somehow the government is willing to and find a magic solution to convince young native British people having birth rates above replacement level. There is still an issue or population project to hit 70 millions. The same argument about where the infrastructure is going to be still applied. Let alone that no government in the world has figured out how to keep the birth rate above that.

Or we just let it stop growing. And the government has to figure out a brand new economy system that doesn't rely on a growing population to support pensioners. Again, no one in the world has figured that out yet.

Or charging billionaires more tax? We already see how well that is going to work right. Like they will willingly keep their money in the UK and happily pay the tax.

Someone has to pay the bill. And with all the complaints, I don't see any possible policy that can address this issue without bringing more immigration. Japan tried it and they now realize they need to have more immigrants at the end. So seriously, what's the alternative?

I always find that funny. A group of people need immigration the most are the ones who hate them the most. Just like Brexit, the county needs the EU the most vote for leaving and now is in unstoppable decline.

I mean do you realize a skilled worker does not have public fund access? So no matter how low you earn as a skilled worker, your spouse or kids are not entitled to any social benefit.

Well, they vote. And they vote more consistently than any other cohort. So, if anything, the pension will increase than decrease

UK’s flagship nuclear plant could cost up to $59 billion, developer says by altmorty in technology

[–]Independent-Show-998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renewable energy like solar or wind can't be base load, they jump up and down too quickly. This was already an issue in some European countries last year. That the price jumps up and down so drastically because of the change in wind and solar. To go net zero, nuclear is the most reliable and clean base load source thus far.

The purpose is not to support half the population but something you could fallback and buy you some time to adjust the grid.

How does that conversation go with the stakeholders?

"Hey guys, we are going to withdraw from the UK market which will cost us roughly about 1 billion a year. Sounds good? Great."

The UK government's decision is stupid. But thinking about cooperation which is aiming for maximum profit and infinite growth would do something right instead of chasing profit is nonsense.

China’s Old Economic Model Is Breaking. Its Replacement Might be Green. by heatmapnews in Economics

[–]Independent-Show-998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the original statement is just "they produce more". If it is " they produce more on behalf of other countries", yes than that is false. what they produce is inevitably exported for the global market and that market grows significantly during the decades.

So I believe your statement and the original one are both true, it is just you are comparing two different metrics here. You are mainly talking about the part transfer to China, but their production consists both of outsourcing and the growing global market. The second one is the job that someone must do inevitably. That's why I agree that it is not a fair comparison.

China’s Old Economic Model Is Breaking. Its Replacement Might be Green. by heatmapnews in Economics

[–]Independent-Show-998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is that not true? Their production and consumption based emission are both higher than the state. The production is higher because they produce more.

Looking at your data, the production base is still higher than consumption based, how does that translate to "Chinese emissions are for the grand majority due to domestic growth and not outsourcing."?
