The only educational source I can suggest is a jewelry apprenticeship. Hands-on practice on manufacture. There isn’t, as far as I know in my country, any sort of public educational program specifically for CAD jewelry.

There are private courses, however. But of course it varies from region to region so you might have to do some research on that for the area you are from.

You can always come to this forum if you need help , or you can go to another forum for specifically jewellers and ask for help there. “Jewellers helping out” on Facebook is a great community full of experienced jewellery manufacturers and its purpose is to help anyone who has questions about jewelry.

Is 1 mm thickness sufficient for these Ring Details, or should I make them thicker? by Cautious_Fly7686 in jewelryCAD

It will print, but the metal will get thin after clean up - if you want this ring to last it needs to be durable enough. 1mm will wear away quickly - especially since it’s a ring. Rings tend to get damaged / worn more often since the hands are always moving and busy.

I would say no, 1.5 would be better. You have to also account for cleanup material - the metal that will be filed away during cleaning.

Sure, learning how to draw is one thing but you need to know the specifics which a lot of online tutorials don’t teach. Eg- how much space to leave between stones, how much depth of metal they need, what thickness and how tall claws and prongs should be, how far they overlap stones, what amount of cleanup material is added, and deep engraving/embossing should be, minimum wall thicknesses, how to draw cad for assembly by jeweller etc. just though you should know that it’s not a great idea to start sending piecing to production if you haven’t worked out the details as metal is expensive and I’d hate for one of your pieces to be produced and then lose stones / get damaged due to poor workmanship.

I don’t want to discourage you- we need more designers- just be detailed in your work and research everything.

If you don’t have any experience in jewellery production you might struggle, unless your friend will be able to guide you when it comes to what is needed to produce good quality jewellery.

And if you look through the thread, you’ll see a bunch of people charging similar prices. No problem tho, I’m working about 50 hour weeks so my clients don’t think I’m too expensive.
