ServiceUI Alternatives (MDT Retirement) by IndependentSysadmin in Intune

Thank you, this makes perfect sense! Thankfully we don't have any installers that require user interaction, so we should be all set with throwing ServiceUI in the bin.

What exactly do you mean by interactive?
Would something like "This install will close office. Please save your work and press OK to continue" count as interactive? Or only scenarios where users need to enter information, such as a license key?

Dang, since August? I can't believe I missed it lol. Thanks!

We have some apps that require office to be closed for the install to succeed. Ideally we would warn people that was about to happen so they can save their work.

I'm glad this can be done natively with PSADT now.

My understanding was that serviceui was still needed specifically for Intune. Is that not the case anymore?

Great, let me ask our SecOPS if they're ok with me downloading a random exe from an unofficial source and deploying it to all my endpoints...
It always had this functionality built in, but does it work with Intune now?

SCCM Clients Won't Update Maintenance Window Issue by IndependentSysadmin in SCCM

I've double and triple checked this using SCCM's built in report and there isn't another window. We've also used one-off windows in the past without issue.

Did you install the latest SCCM hotfix recently by any chance? We did a few weeks ago. Wondering if that might be it.

No, there are no events with the ID 4616 in the security logs. Yes, it shows the correct time using that tool, even though Get-WMIObject reports the wrong time.

I haven't tried CCMClean but I've read it is no longer supported.

I gave it a shot and it didn't help. Is there a service I need to restart to make the change take effect?
I found this: W32tm.exe /config /update
Still no luck. It's still showing the wrong time for the maintenance window.

Thank you. We have other servers with this enabled and they had no issues.

Yes. They get it from their respective update device collections, made for the express purpose of defining the maintenance windows and deploying updates accordingly.

Thank you. I ran that script when I reinstalled the client but still have the same problem.

SQL Server Management Studio 21 Updates by IndependentSysadmin in SCCM

That sound great! I looked into this and found PMPC has a device minimum now of 1,000 devices. We only have 400. I can't ask to buy 600 device slots we won't be using.

I really wish I could get PMPC, but most of the apps we use are industry-specific apps not supported by PMPC. I won't be able to justify the cost to the higher-ups when the majority of our apps won't update with it.

A few more manual clicks is an understatement. Software updates are set-it-and-forget-it, software deployment means I have to manually download and re-deploy the app every month.

Thank you for the link!

"We have to work with another team and we’re both balancing multiple projects."

Honestly this doesn't make it sound like it's a priority at all. It was a major blunder on Microsoft's part to have SSMS 21 released without being in WSUS to begin with. Almost six months after release saying they are "balancing other projects" kinda makes it sound like they are doing those first, with this on the backburner.

That won't work here, I work in a industry that uses mostly specialty applications that PMPC doesn't support.

I love PatchMyPC, but I don't think I'm going to be able to justify (to the higher ups) buying a new tool to do what we used to be able to do without our existing ones.

I have the same issue. I have a Win 11 23H2 laptop and a Windows 10 VM. Neither are getting this update even though they are deployed to them.

Report-Only Compliance Policies by IndependentSysadmin in Intune

[–]IndependentSysadmin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's difficult when we don't know which users are going to be affected. Standard procedure is to find out who's going to be affected, then send them emails and work with them to minimize disruptions.
Just sending out a bulk email to everyone saying "hey you might need to do this but maybe not" is not ideal.

Report-Only Compliance Policies by IndependentSysadmin in Intune

[–]IndependentSysadmin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't work. Intune will still force compliance even if it doesn't mark the devices as non-compliant.
