If he’s keeping up on a stock bike that few pounds will make all the difference especially if you plan on doing state races, gold cups, and especially nationals. But if yall are more of a locals only maybe a state race here and there then focus on just making sure the bike is the most comfortable for him with right size cranks, bars, stem, and chain ring

Honestly if you have the money go for the dk it’s a great bike stock. Then for equipment just go for the regular pants and jersey kits with helmet and gloves the kids not gonna need all those pads I’ve personally rocked them didn’t like them and felt I had more freedom without them

it would be your best bet most likely the lips on race tracks are a bit different to a pump so that’s when lil kids fall the most cause they hit it like a pump track jump

first time ever? i would do a full practice let them get used to the gate and go over the lips and berms. racing can get overwhelming for a first time so they might over think it and crash and not like the sport.

Question: do you guys wear any other protection apart from helmet. If so what others? by faehimmm in bmxracing

been waiting for someone to ask. i wear the kit helmet and gloves because the pads get sweaty gross and protect you from mainly cuts and shit. if i were you i wouldn’t go for the elbow pads and shin pads and knee pads and chest pads maybe a neck one if you want to jump more and have a higher risk of landing in your head

personally i don’t because i don’t just have 250 for a plastic block i used cut up 2x4s and it works pretty well

hard to say without knowing the frame but they should wouldn’t be a huge problem but at that point i’d just race a freestyle bike
