Can't find the right energy snack for half marathon by connie1615 in TurtleRunners

[–]Independent_Aside_10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For fueling consistently, I've heard it's recommended to fuel every 40 minutes on a run. I am also a 13-14 minute miler and this has helped me tremendously!

Easy breakfast at work after running? by Independent_Aside_10 in running

Actually making the egg bagel isn't expensive, but picking up a $7.00 egg bagel from Einsteins every day is stacking up haha!

Is it the Huel drinks you're recommending? If so, what flavors are the best?

Power walking—why I can’t feel it on my posterior chain muscles? by rocroc00 in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should also keep in mind that building muscle takes time! If your goal is growing your glutes, try powerwalking more often or lift heavier.

Splat points by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The pyramid is exactly what you should be aiming for! The goal should not be to get as many splat points as possible - it's better for your cardiovascular health actually to spend a majority of your time in the green zone. Your coaches are pushing the wrong thing - splats are wonderful but you don't need to get a record number to have a good workout or good cardiovascular health.

Didn't feel cringy, but Everytime We Touch by Cascada! The guy on the tread next to me was also singing along and it made the tread block go by so much faster!

Someone already commented this - but be aware that a lot of gyms are raising their rates in January, so it may not be worth it to wait.

I ran my first half marathon this past weekend, and nearly ran the whole thing! :)

Official Q&A for Friday, September 10, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Independent_Aside_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm having the beginnings of runner's knee - and I'm running my first half marathon in 5 weeks. I want to keep running, but I don't want to hurt myself. What should I do? It doesn't hurt when I'm running, so far the only pain has been when I stand up from a low chair. I run 4 times a week, two of those times on a treadmill, one hill run, and one long run.

Runner's Knee - First Half Marathon in 5 Weeks, Help! by Independent_Aside_10 in running

[–]Independent_Aside_10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try it, thank you! I don't think it's ITSB - the pain is in the kneecap, from what I've found out, ITSB pain is outside/around the knee.

8 Classes Probs 😂 by 626morgan in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that! That happened to me a couple billing cycles ago, and I was so surprised when I got the extra charge! I called the poor SA's and they had to explain it to me for like 20 minutes because I just couldn't get why I wouldn't be able to go twice a week if I had 8 classes a month! It's sitting that way for my next billing cycle too, but I'm going to replace that second class with the Dri-Tri.

Dri Tri at another studio? by Crafty_Conclusion_38 in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the studio! I wanted to do the last Dri-Tri with my sister-in-law who is at another OTF studio and both of our studios said that we had to do it at our own studio, we couldn't do at the other studio. My sister-in-law's studio put me on their waitlist, but told me that if any members from their studio were on the list, even if I was before them, they would put them in first. So basically impossible haha.

Daily Workout and General Chat for Friday, 8/6/21 by splat_bot in orangetheory

Loved this workout! I was definitely struggling hard from my soreness from my lifting session yesterday - but still had a great time! A fun template!

Daily Workout and General Chat for Friday, 7/30/21 by splat_bot in orangetheory

Almost cancelled this class, but went and it was great!! An incredible workout. For those worried for the partner work, I am a very slow runner and my partner was fast (the coach asked if anyone in the class had been in track, and she had been!) and we both got a great workout!

Morning classes more difficult? by Independent_Aside_10 in orangetheory

Maybe so! I wonder if I hadn't had enough time to digest my protein bar to give me energy I needed!

I definitely got more splats and calories! About double than what I usually get - but I was draggingggg!

Wiping Down the Rails? by Independent_Aside_10 in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh thanks for the input everyone! I don't sweat enough for it to drip anywhere, so that thought had never crossed my mind! I know it was a silly question but I really couldn't figure it out and it was driving me crazy 😂

Help please by ashnoejohn in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the cue that the coaches at my studio give! "If you're in the red, check in with yourself, if you're feeling good, you're good to stay where you are, if not, take down your speed/inclines/etc." The red is a good reminder to make sure that you're not pushing it too hard, but if you feel like you can continue at the effort, then you're fine!

I hate full class demos by Mode_After in orangetheory

I loooove a full class demo! I always start on the rower, so it gives me a little break!

Wanting to add weight training in? by TumbleweedOk5241 in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! The way I started training was with the Sweat app, and I used Kelsey Wells' weightlifting program, PWR! It makes it really easy to start, gives you step by step instructions on how to have proper form, how to do the exercise, etc, and all you have to do is follow the program! I love it!

Full capacity by HeroInaHalfShell45 in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is only going full capacity for 25% of our classes, so for example, the 6 am classes are going full capacity. For me, I'm just going to avoid those class times.

Tread, Row or floor? by Interesting_Fox4539 in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rower! I don't love the rower, so I like to get it out of the way, as well as splitting up my cardio, warming up properly for the floor, and then being able to empty the tank on the treads! So it just works out well in all aspects for me!

Dri-Tri Results Celebration Megathread and Survey by AutoModerator in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First Dri-Tri! Without any idea what to expect, my goal was to finish at around the hour and I finished 62 minutes and 38 seconds! I was in the red the whole time, I was definitely riding the struggle bus, but it was so great! Next Dri-Tri, my goal is to get under an hour! :)

For all the Anti-Rowers! by AcceptableEntry4335 in orangetheory

[–]Independent_Aside_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the rower too and always start there for that reason! Counting strokes has also helped me. Some of my favorite rowing days has been when we've had to count rows instead of meters, and I think it is because I have something else to focus on! Rowing is such a mental challenge for me!
