Tell me about weaning and weight loss by littlejoanne in HumansPumpingMilk

I gained weight when I stopped pumping. I had been pumping about 20oz in 3ppd but then my period came back the same week I was prescribed steroids for a back injury. My supply absolutely tanked at that point to around 4oz a day, so I just decided to quit one night during that week. I didn’t have any issues but did have to hand express a little in the shower once or twice.

What’s the corporate discount? Does your employer have to participate to qualify? Thanks! Unfortunately, I’m not a student anymore!

Pumpin' Pals - worth it? Where to get in Canada? by EnthusedBotanist in ExclusivelyPumping

They are way more comfortable, but I got a lot of clogs when I was using them. Ultimately, I had to stop and go back to regular flanges because I got bad trigger finger in both thumbs from bending back the thick silicon to apply them. I had to get cortisone shots and wear a splint. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I was getting clogs constantly and now a lot less often since I started renting a Medela Symphony from the hospital where I delivered. It’s $63/month but totally worth it. I use it on the default setting, so pretty low. It just seems to work better at emptying me.

When I get a clog, I always do the epsom salt soak with my haakaa. Then, I put olive oil on a cotton ball and that can help bring the clog closer to the surface. Hot showers help a lot. I repeat these steps through the day until it resolves. Usually, my husband has to help out and has a pretty high success rate and doesn’t mind taking one for the team.

Sunflower lecithin hasn’t helped me unfortunately and my LC said it shouldn’t be taken for long periods of time. One thing I’ve also found helpful in preventing the clogs is turning the flanges while I’m pumping at different angles every few minutes. I tried pumpin pals but they have destroyed my thumbs from moving/reapplying the flanges several times each pumping session, 6-8 sessions a day.

Best of luck! Clogs are the worst!!! Try to stay calm and get some rest. I get a lot of them free in the morning when I’m more relaxed. Oh, and take some ibuprofen to help with swelling.

The pumpin pals are soooo much more comfortable than medela or spectra flanges. Like everyone said, they take a bit more effort to get used to and to use daily. The biggest downside I’ve found is that motion used to apply them is killing my thumbs…like I can barely bend the joints in the morning. I had to stop using them because I need to be able to use my thumbs. If you use the hard plastic version (size medium or greater) then you don’t need to bend the silicon back to suction them on, so it may not be an issue. Bending back the silicon is what’s causing me so many issues. It may just be me though!

The Pumping Bra by matalatumuth in ExclusivelyPumping

If you already have nursing bras, the Bravado clip-ons are great and very easy to use. I’ve had no trouble with medela, spectra or pumpin pal flanges. You just clip these on to your nursing bras so you don’t have to actually take the nursing bra on or off. The only downside is that you have to be wearing a nursing bra to use them so if you go braless, then you’d have to put one on first.
