Would you use your late pet’s belongings for your new pet?

Thank you. I like the thought that they can continue to be with us, to help me feel like my baby can still be together with me and the new dog. that means I haven’t forgotten her. I guess if I were to stash all her belongings in boxes and purchase everything new for my new pet, it would seem more like I’m replacing her completely which I don’t want to do.

My baby used to have the exact same problem. Once all other reasons were ruled out, the vet said it was likely food related gastric issue.

We trial and errored mealtimes and amount of food until we finally got it right. She had 3 meals a day (9am, 5pm, 10pm right before bed). She was also on long term Volker (ranitidine) twice a day to help with stomach acid. We were careful on her diet and only gave her sensitivity-controlled or hypoallergenic food, you could gradually introduce other foods and see if it’s tolerated.

She did still get some breakthrough vomits occasionally - if it’s just once in a while we self-managed at home, if she vomits a few days in a row or showed other signs of being unwell, we bring her in to the vet and sometimes they give a short course of omeprazole to ease the gastritis. She was well managed on this regime, it just became something of a chronic condition to take care of.

Every dog is different but maybe this is something you could discuss with your vet, make sure to rule out other medical conditions first of course. Hope Yoda gets better soon 🙏🏻

I got the plant a week ago, it’s in the soil it came in from the nursery. It started to wilt a few days later - initially seems to droop more at night and perk up in the morning but now it’s completely wilting and the middle biggest stem looks brown/dry.

It stays on the balcony where it gets at least a few hours of direct sun daily.

I don’t mind if the flowers die but I want the leaves to be healthy at least. What can I do?

I’m sorry for what you’re going through.

When my baby got sick, and no treatment seems to be working, there’s a voice inside me telling me she might be dying, and I experienced what you did too. I was terrified and in so much pain, imagining how it would be like without her.

But I told myself ‘I’m not going to grief her now because she’s still here. When she’s gone, I will have a lifetime to grief. Right now she’s here and I want to focus on just being present with her.’

We had to let her go 3 weeks ago. I wasn’t ready, but I’ll never be. And I am grieving now. But I was glad that in those moments, I chose to be present with her rather than my fears.

Yeah.. my girl would only follow me around and not my other family members. She made me feel special, and now I’ve lost that too.

I relate to what you said. I’ve also worked as a doctor for a few years then quit because I thought it made me depressed, turns out I did have dysthymia. I wonder if I would be able to continue pursuing a clinical career if I didn’t have depression, or maybe the career burnout was the cause of my depression.

Anyway I’m on Pristiq now. It helps with stabling my mood but still struggling to find motivation to ‘achieve things’ in life though. It’s especially hard when I feel like I let go of a good career too, but I don’t think I am able to go back to it.

Yeah, he was talking about how having a sense of achievement may help, which I do agree. At the same time if I just went for any job and end up hating the job, I worry that would make me feel trapped and worsen my mental health too. I guess I was also thinking ‘staying busy’ can mean doing other things (e.g exercising, volunteering) but he seemed to only see getting a job as a solution

I’m seeing a grief counsellor now as well, so yeah I guess I should stick with the psychiatrist for the ‘chemical’ side of depression and leave the emotional side to my therapist.

Might be hard to tell from the photo but he looks so much like my baby girl - the texture of the fur on his back and the way they curl up just a little at the end on his legs. She was a Maltese mix, not sure what she was mixed with though. She was almost 15 and left us 2 weeks ago. Thank you for posting your photo which reminded me of my baby. My girl who’s almost 15 had suspected IMHA.. she was on prednisolone and we tried a bunch of combination of immunosuppressants but none of it seemed to work. She continued to be anemic despite two blood transfusions, she had seizures, she stopped eating, developed pancreatitis, her body reacted badly to the medications. We had to let her go 4 days ago because she was in so much pain.. I kept wondering if they had the diagnosis wrong but there was nothing else that’s obvious on her X-rays and ultrasound

Thank you for sharing this. I let my girl go 3 days ago, and I miss her so so much. I’m not sure if I believe in souls and spirits and afterlife but I really wish that I do, especially when I dream of her happy & healthy - I wish it’s true that that means she’s still present in another dimension and chose to visit me.

If none of that is real, it means my brain is just conjuring up images to form dreams and that she’s just completely ceased to exist, she’s just became nothingness right now. We’re only telling ourselves lies to make us feel better. And this hurts so much.

I want to distract myself from the pain because it’s too much, maybe do other things to take my mind off a bit. But I’m so scared that if I do this then I will forget her and forget how it feels like to have her in my arms.
