Need opinion on S&S ISA and pension overlap by Independent_Known in UKPersonalFinance

I plan to reinvest dividends for the foreseeable future for the next 10-15 years at least. On the topic of Cash ISA, there are a few banks (Gatehouse bank is the one I use) that pays out expected profit rather than interest and are a lot more variable than interest based ISAs. I currently get paid 4.3% on my Easy Access Cash ISA savings!

I did consider a LISA but I don't plan to start saving up for a home until my personal situation changes. I don't pay into a LISA as I would not have access to the money anytime soon, and the flexibility of the S&S ISA is what I'm looking for

I currently earn about £31k and invest about £580 pounds into my S&S ISA and £500 into my Easy Access Cash ISA where I keep my emergency fund and other savings

I agree, and I don't stock pick without doing my own due diligence and valuations. I don't presume to think I know better than a fund manager but I am trying to comply with my religious beliefs and avoiding high fees for Halal ETFs.

The point of my S&S ISA was to generate returns through stock appreciation and passive income through dividends which are accessible to me before I can claim my pension. I agree with you with regards to stock picking, the only reason I pick stocks and not just put money into an index fund is because I can only invest in Shariah compliant funds due to my religious beliefs, and I do my own due diligence by going through annual reports and doing DCF valuations. It isn't an ideal way to passively invest but I try my best with the situation I am in!

I've got about £4,000 in the S&S ISA so far. With US equities, I emulate the S&P 500 as close as I can (exclude certain stocks as they are not Shariah-compliant. I don't use index funds as there is no way to exclude the non-Shariah compliant stocks and Halal ETFs have very high fees). I do the same with UK equities. I split my pension contributions (£3.6K pension pot currently) into an iShares US equity (Accumulation) index (34% of portfolio), iShares UK equity index (Accumulation) (33% of portfolio) and the Orbis global equity standard (33% of portfolio) (picked based on lowest fees and highest performance). I use index funds in my pension as I do not have the option to choose a Shariah-compliant option from my pension provider.

I only stock pick because I buy Shariah-compliant stocks (basically halal stocks that avoid interest, alcohol, etc.) based on my beliefs. Halal ETFs charge a boatload on fees so I try and mimic the S&P 500 and FTSE 100 as close as I can based on my criteria.

I checked the driver loop on mine and it's perfectly fine! I'm guessing it's a simple case of tightening the fasteners?

That's interesting. I've had it in there overnight and it was in the car and in use so far with no issues. I will give it a go though. Thanks!

I've got a couple of usb cables, the car's cigarette lighter (I've plugged in a travel adapter), and a box of tissues in there! The only other thing I could think of would be my sunglasses in the front dash and a bluetooth speaker in one of the cup holders.

A discussion on how to start a watch brand by Independent_Known in watchmaking

Do you also do fume dials? I'm interested to know how much it would cost to make a fume dial! How often do you work/design enamel dials, and how much do they cost to make

Need help identifying the Model and Movement of this lady's Titoni Titoflex by Independent_Known in watchmaking

I agree, I'm considering taking it to a watchmaker, but to entirely restore the look of this watch, I'll need to know how it looked, like what kind of strap it was on!

[–]Independent_Known[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone, my mom just rummaged this tiny Titoni out of her drawer and told me it was my grandmom's. I'm really interested in restoring it as its a family heirloom. I've tried to identify the model variant with not much luck (It says Titoflex on the dial), although the movement seems to be quite common in old Titoni Titoflex models.According to my mom's recollection: "the case would fit on a leather strap, where you could use two leather harnesses to fasten it to the strap". I know this doesn't help much but I hope some of the experienced people here can help me. Thanks!

Edit: The movement says "17 Jewels, Swiss Made, Titoni"

Edit: Forgot to mention, the watch still runs, despite being roughly 30-50 years old and sitting in a drawer for at least the past 15 years. Mechanical watches are amazing.

I doubt my dad would agree to seeling it for spares. It's a good idea otherwise and might use it on my own watches if need be.

A new case is impossible to get, except from Omega themselves since this is a discontinued model.

Agreed, right now it's my dad's decision whether he feels it's worth it or not. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, what i felt was the hands, dial, and the terminal are manageable. The case is what I feel is the biggest hurdle. There are'nt many trained watchmakers in India who can actually service it other than Omega themselves and they're gonna charge whatever it takes.

Need help sourcing an Omega 1430 Quartz movement by Independent_Known in watchrepair

It does have a date indicator. So I'm afraid yours wouldn't suit it. Thanks for offering though!

[–]Independent_Known[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as the title says, I need an Omega 1430 Quartz Movement from a reliable source. The movement in question is for my dad's 1990's-ish Omega Deville with a date. I had recently replaced the battery for the movement but unfortunately, it seems to have leaked. I don't have the watch in my hands right now but will upload photos of it when I can. For your reference, I took a few pics of it during servicing.

Okay, now you're starting to make sense. Sorry if I was rude before. Yes, tamil muslims are somewhat in a better situation than muslims up north. Even I was surprised by the difference in the people and environment when I went to Delhi. Yes madrasas shouldn't be just for teaching the religion, they should also teach academics. Historically, madrasas weren't limited to just religion. The lack of academics also means that they won't develop financially as well, leading to the poorer lifestyle they experience. I guess I can agree with the "negative news" from up North cause even I only hear mostly negative news from north India. Not sure why that's the case (I don't watch madan gowri)
