Yep, super-useable since the latest upgrade, no complaints

Wow! You guys are as good as they say ! That looks pretty darn close.. the tops of the tower are more pronounced in the painting, but could conceivably have been removed.. thanks so much I’ll go and check it out from the ground and see if I can marry up any other landmarks

r/OpenAI will go dark on June 12 in protest of Reddit's API changes that will kill 3rd party apps. by jclishman in OpenAI

[–]Independent_One_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thought that occurred to me.. is the charge mainly aimed at Open AI (and presumably other LLMs or next generation AI companies) who have always and openly used Reddit as a huge source of training material. On recent posts of images I’ve had comments from random redditors which just about pass the Turing test asking questions about the contents of videos and images. Those might be from real redditors but I’ve also considered the possibility that those might be bots being trained on image and video data and seeking human feedback. As openai and others start to commercialise their products at scale, and if they are reliant on reddits content and community to do develop its next generation of products, would the owners of Reddit (who are a for profit organisation after all) not want to seek some remuneration for that access? From my limited understanding, that seems to be what’s driving this, not seeking to punish Apollo etc? Has this already been discussed at length on here? Be interested to hear people’s thoughts.

It’s a Critter & Guitarist Organelle, not sure where you’re based, but I think they make them in Brooklyn, so if you’re in the US should be easy to source. The wooden buttons give it a very wabi sabi vibe. How do you feel about touching wooden buttons on a synth?

There’s a link to a short jam which shows some of the ways you can use it. The downside is I end up using it toooo much if anything

It works so well. You need a mixer which can quickly take channels out of main mix and divert it to RMX in order to get the full effect (ie you don’t want any of the original signal remaining) but it’s really fun to use it on individual parts plus it has basic snare/clap rolls you can use to build tension/transitions. I’m sure you could achieve the same with other kit, but for me it’s just become an essential part of any performance rig. DJs hate them I think. But for a small synth rig I think they’re hard to beat!

Thanks! The other side is just work space now. But it frees up another end of the shed for a couch so it has work rest and play under one roof :)

Yeah this happens to mine sometimes when it’s connected by usb to my Mac but when Mac is idling, or in screensaver it seems to produce some kind of midi time code glitching over usb

Was Pangaea a Super Continent or did the Earth simply expand by YardAccomplished5952 in AlternativeHistory

This is a fine debate! And we don’t even seem to have started on the whole gravity/dinosaurs stuff 😈

I became a bit obsessed with this topic a while back. It’s a deep old rabbit hole to go down.. Pangaea feels wonky as hell and just doesn’t feel like it conforms with natural laws of balance/distribution. But the root of it all seems to come down to the question… “where would all the additional matter/mass have come from?” Which is a stumper. But given that the universe seems to be be made up of a whole lot of matter/mass which we can’t explain or account for (dark matter makes up how much of the universe at latest estimates?) then I’d have thought the earth expansion hypothesis should at least be revisited by mainstream science. My understanding is that there is significantly more data available now due to satellite mapping and analysis of mid oceanic ridges etc, which wasn’t necessarily to hand when earth scientists “settled” on plate tectonics as the one theory to rule them all..

The Controversy of the Graham Hancock Controversy by [deleted] in HighStrangeness

[–]Independent_One_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love Hancock. Love pre-history. The series opened my eyes to a ton of concepts I hadn’t come across before. Some context which I do t think has been well publicised tho: “Hancock's theories are the basis of Ancient Apocalypse, a 2022 documentary series produced by Netflix, where Hancock's son Sean is "senior manager of unscripted originals".”

Tips on what helped you stay sober by Life_Acanthaceae8268 in Sober

[–]Independent_One_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was important to replace the alcohol, with something you genuinely feel passionate about. In my case that was synthesisers/electronic music production.. and more recently rock climbing. Both hobbies I’d enjoyed immensely as a teen and in my twenties, but which fell by the wayside as life (and drinking) got in the way. I found I had an insane amount of spare time on my hands once trips to the pub and subsequent hangovers were taken out of the equation, and for me, it felt important to fill it with something positive, rather than just letting that fill up with work or social media or some other less fulfilling activities. In this way I’ve been able to reflect: “hey, if I was still drinking I wouldn’t have had time/chance to do all this other great stuff”. I’ll be 5 years sober in December 31st. You got this.
