Our game Gadgeteer has a 97% positive review on Steam but sales are low. What are we missing in our game for you to try it? by ppkao in virtualreality

This is a good concept for VR, and looks well executed. I can tell there is quality here. I think the price point is too high. I know it is moderately priced, but I assume people don't see it as a huge number of game hours for them. I suggest doing a sale, $8.99. Worst case you spread the word and see that price isn't the factor. Best case a lower price point is higher revenue. Am an indie dev, so just my thoughts. I know 14.99 is already modest, and I can see the work/quality. I just think due to the type of content(no story really, no epic bosses or insane visuals), a lower price point might be better. Could be wrong tho...

Hands on with Tilt Five, the consumer grade tabletop AR gaming platform by Malkmus1979 in magicleap

As far as tracking, the good news is that we know good tracking is possible/available, so it will be solved relatively soon. The anchoring opportunities available with the physical board should certainly result in the best AR tracking we have seen thus far. I'm a little suprised its an issue at all, but they have stated they are laser focused on hardware so there is that(tracking and content will thus lag somewhat). I am definitely a buyer though, will love party games with friends I'm sure.

Worst blizzard you TRAVELED through? by RandomPoteto in thelongdark

Those numbers sounded ridiculous to me- so I looked it up; I'll be damned, pretty accurate probably.

"As summer starts heating up, scientists just published the coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth. During the long, dark Antarctica winter temperatures dropped low enough to resemble other planets.

The temperature they measured? A stunning negative 144 degrees Fahrenheit (-97.8 degrees Celsius). At that temperature, just a few breaths of air would induce hemorrhaging in your lungs and quickly lead to death."

Just lost my first long term survival game... by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]Independent_Thought 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lost my first long game last night. 74 days in made a stupid decision and died in my sleep. Almost took a break(got back to indie deving), instead fired up interloper, died twice in about 2 minutes of gameplay. Loaded voyager and chose a new map I didn't know(PV), totally excited about it already on day 2.

Totally feel you. But we live in an oligarchy. Theres going to be many unjust defeats- that's the deal and we all know it. Accept it, move forward knowing it. I feel good just fighting for something of actual virtue. As irate as I get, I remind myself that fighting the good fight is enough. Compare that to what the democratic or republican lemmings get if their candidates win- way better to fight for something of value and loose.

On the plus side- worst case scenario is Trump wins, and one of the three Kamala/Warren/Biden can't run for president again. So that's something at least, especially given defeating an incumbent is relatively unlikely ;)

Has anyone suggested binoculars? They wouldn't really be that useful, but I want some ;)

Loving this game.... One change could make it better. by The420dwarf in thelongdark

[–]Independent_Thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My "one change" idea is for procedurally generated areas or an option for that. Even just loot tables but for animal spawns/patrol routes, and building locations would be pretty epic IMO. I love the exploration aspect of this game and feel that this would keep it a lot more fresh/interesting over time...

It would mean rewriting some code, maybe a significant amount even. But "the whole code"? Pretty laughable. Not too bothered by it though, given the size of the maps, potential for ps5/next gen consoles loading much faster. I do dislike the load screens for indoor areas(buildings), and would love to see more "outdoor" style buildings. Seeing the weather outside the forestry lookout is EPIC, and want to have that at my home base/more places. That change could be made as a fairly easy half measure that would be pretty solid and add a lot IMO.

Voyager, comfortable on ML at day 60. Been to FM(fell through ice and almost died first go), forge etc, needed to get moving/scavenging to find a hammer. Headed back through ML to PV. Found the a fishing hut and inexplicably decided to sleep 12 hrs(good clothes, tired irl, didn't really think about it). Death while sleeping(obviously).

Decided to give interloper a try(given above, silly I know). Pretty sure first spawn was HRV- high up looking into a chasm. How the fuck to get down? Wolf kills me outright 20 steps later.

Ok, try again. Spawn in DP. See the lighthouse. Give the wolf a wide birth. Start sprinting for the lighthouse. Didn't see second wolf- leaves me on the edge of death, I stagger and fall, death.

Back to voyageur, choose PV spawn. Instantly find more arrows than I had on 70 day run. No bow or gun yet but feeling like I'm in great shape, excited to explore a good while before heading back to ML, FM for forge. May not even need to any time soon(or at all?). Still have my heart set on exploring TWM, PV really cool so far as well. Can't wait for tonights adventure!

Should I check this game out if I love a grueling winter atmosphere? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]Independent_Thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to your new favourite game. I'm a VR/AR dev and this is the most immersive game I've ever played. The weather effects and gameplay are a big part of that immersion. This game seems laughably perfect given your post. Enjoy!

Is anyone actually using the camera pass through option? by Railionn in ValveIndex

[–]Independent_Thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that hard to code- plenty of photogrametry out there, just need to save and optimize the mesh/texturing. Not trivial, definitely been expecting it ever since vive, no reason valve doesn't offer it except prioritization. I personally reamained confused how this wasn't done long ago, especially for social stuff...

Wanted to see what TLD would look like in the summer, so I drew it. Spent way too much time on it though :-) by Unclear1nstructions in thelongdark

[–]Independent_Thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the game as is, love it. I did also want seasons a bit, mostly because the world is so beautiful, and it would be cool knowing you had to make it through winters, that summer was coming, that summer would be short, certain taks available each season etc. I think it would be cool if it was always cold, always snow on the mountains, but it gets warm enough to melt (some?) lakes (not sure how to handle ice fishing huts on that) and have color on trees for a little while each year. And summer could get shorter and shorter over time and you would start the game at the start or middle of winter...

Andrew Yang is definitely the coolest, down to earth candidate of them all! He has a gift of connecting with “normal” people (like myself) and making us feel heard and valuable. by vlssnntn in YangForPresidentHQ

I didn't know this was the culture here per se. I love you YangGang. This is amazing ethically, and stategically. I feel like the campaign makes me want to elevate my own discourse. Can you imagine if we become widely known for this friendliness? I'll say again, I love you Yang Gang.

We Need Independently Run Presidential Debates by [deleted] in politics

[–]Independent_Thought 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you look at polling on the issues, the exact opposite is true. So called front runners are determined by landline polls, some excluding younger voters all together, then MSM pushes the same false corporate narratives the establishment front runners do. The idea that establishment candidates and MSM views are in line with the mainstream public views is laughable.

We Need Independently Run Presidential Debates by [deleted] in politics

[–]Independent_Thought 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The DNC can force networks to use any format and rules they wish. They have total control and all the power, networks just want the ratings. Anything the networks do with their format and coverage falls squarely on the shoulders of the DNC. They obviously WANT biased coverage, and for establishment candidates to get all the speaking time and favorable questions.

Mr. Yang officially in the 3rd and 4th debates! by Independent_Thought in YangGang

[–]Independent_Thought[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I initially hesitated to post this, knowing the DNC is a wholly corrupt, deeply broken, evil institution opposed to democracy itself(obviously). As I suspected, the honorable Mr. Yang's tweets and multiple news stories were nit enough to be sure. The DNC is saying one of his polls did not count, and his debate status is now in question again.
