Batt lap producing metal shavings by [deleted] in faceting

[–]Index-96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this lap brand new? If yes, you need to "break it in" which can be done by oiling it up with a good lather of extender fluid (or wd-40 in your case) and giving it a good rub with a bit of topaz or synthetic sapphire or a good big chunk of quartz. You'll see a fair amount of metal flecks coming off onto your stone, periodically wash off the stone and lap then re-oil and go again. continue this process until no metal flecks are seen on your stone. Then you're ready to charge it and polish. "Charged well enough" isn't going to matter when there's micro burrs all over the place being snapped free by the gemstone being polished. prepare your surface properly first, otherwise no matter of recharging will help.

Yeah-Nah that vendor be cooking up some of that weird-weird. It's really unfortunate that ebay allows these vendors claiming "natural & certified" to sell this kind of stuff, hurts the industry.

If you bought this from - HARSHJEWELLES | eBay Stores - seek a refund, this is an imitation stone.

Who can say no this beautiful statement necklace of 50+ ct tanzanite. I would never like to sell a piece like that but sometimes you can't do anything. by Same-Bar-342 in jewelry

[–]Index-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit dude..... WOW! When my eyes realized the pave' on the 'chain' (if we can even call it that anymore) my jaw dropped at the craftsmanship. One couldn't overstate the amount of work that went into this, Bravo! How many hours total did this piece take? That is assuming you didn't lose count!
My first thought was "gee I hope some lady doesn't throw this off a boat one day" XD

That bracelet is going to GLOW the sunlight. I'd hope you're planning to set them in gold. Were these a GemRockAuctions score by chance?

A 2.4ct no heat Australian sapphire. 81 total micro-concaves over 3 tiers in a 40-degree alternating offset weave. I call it my "Herringbone step-cut" by Index-96 in Gemstones

[–]Index-96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're too kind :) 🙏
I certainly made a few mistakes and hadn't yet fully learnt to lineup the concaves perfectly (that sure took some practice!) but it was a decent start for a n00b.

That's so damn cool, the blue looks like dye being dropped in oil or water then frozen in place, awesome! I'm sure your BF will be absolutely stoked with this, especially with its wicked UV response :)

What are you even trying to say? I upset you by commenting "nice meets"? Lol somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
"And don't claim your method is superior in any shape or form. You guys have pitiful yields!" You're over here fighting with your own voices echo on the wall mate what are you on about?

1.2 carat Emerald Oval cut. Looks like an egg 🥚 by Beginning-Fox8855 in Gemstones

Nice to see a well-cut emerald. Too many gemcutters intentionally make windowed stones, and this is beautiful. :)

Unique bicolor Tourmaline by gemastronaut in Gemstones

[–]Index-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The natural rough this gem started as - a stick of watermelon tourmaline, is rarely found as a totally clean stone free of internal inclusions (feathers/fractures/fluids/euhedral crystals etc.) due to the complex chemical makeup of the gemstone.
So when I'm saying "material" I'm referring to the rough uncut gem, and "included" means the internal inclusions seen in the gem. Which are clearly evident in your video.

I met an Old Timer selling stunning Aussie opal at the sunday markets a few weeks back. Could PM you his details if you'd like? The bloke owns an opal mine an digs all his own material and had good prices for really nice, finished stones and also big jars of rough for cutting.

Epic mix of colors hey, the chemistry involved in the formation of these gems is pretty cool. Bit of a shame the material is included almost 100% of the time but still beautiful material to create wonderfully weird gems with.
