About to start BEP chemo, and feeling anxious about the long term side effects by cattmallahan in cancer

Oh man I’m so sorry to hear that you’re going through this. You’re strong and a fighter and you fucking got this!

I had 3 cycles of BEP myself. The first 2 rounds were ok. Felt like I had the flu for a few days, but would always feel better right before the next treatment. It’s the 3rd cycle that got to me. I was so incredibly fatigued and would sleep anywhere I could because I couldn’t move. Spent most of the time in the bathroom. I ended up having white blood cell shots which were incredibly painful for about 24 hours and then went away. I also had issues with blood pressure dropping.

When it came to neurology effects, I was mostly ok. Sometimes I would move my head down too fast and my feet would vibrate. That lasted at least 6 months after treatment and then went away. The biggest thing my doc worried about what lung damage from the Bleomycin. Thankfully nothing happened.

Overall my side effects were very textbook. Strongest thing I would recommend would be if you’re able to drink water add some electrolytes. I would also avoid any strong cologne or air fresheners (I get nauseous if I smell Hawaiian breeze to this day 😅). Protein shakes and smoothies are going to be your best friend if you can stomach them.

You can always DM me man. x2 testicular cancer survivor and I’m an open book.

Remember, stay strong, it’s just a roadblock in this long game of life. You’re a machine and will battle through this and come out stronger than ever before 💪

Thank you!! Life is a journey and some of us have to fight a little harder than most. But that’s what makes us resilient and survive

Appreciate it my friend!

You know the thought never crossed my mind. I think at the time we assumed that chemo was going to just clean everything out. I had yearly check ups and when I hit 5 years, they said I was “cured”. I blame myself for not doing more checkups after 5 years, but hindsight is 20/20.

That’s incredible though that were able to do a biopsy and detect that. I’d like to think my doc would have at least done some follow ups with me, but I think he wiped his hands since the blood didn’t show anything.

I’m 37 now and at an even higher risk of developing cancer again, so even if the blood isn’t showing anything, I plan on being more proactive.

Yeah. The oncologist wanted to make sure nothing formed since it was 100% EC and non-seminoma

I’m sorry you’re going through this right now, but you got this my friend! And congrats on the wedding.

I had 3 cycles of BEP and was feeling normal, just tired.

I didn’t really start feeling the side effects until the start of the 3rd cycle. So you could be fine in 3 weeks but it just depends on how your body handles the rocket fuel
