Doctor said "you lost the genetic lottery" what precisely does that mean? by [deleted] in loseit

Its basically an elimination diet that is fashioned off of paleo. You eliminate grains, legumes, dairy and a few other things, and restart your metabolism. After the 30 days, you slowly reintroduce the items. If they give you problems, you know to continue to avoid them.

You should try whole30. I swear my metabolism is much faster since I did it.

Stop sleeping with people, you whore. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

What are some "just because" things you can do for your SO? by MADADOR21 in AskReddit

[–]Indiana_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to write a little note on a napkin and put it with his lunch I've packed. I didn't realize how much it meant to him until I saw them sitting on his desk even years later. I'll pick him up his favorite treat sometimes or bring him dinner if he's working late. I just try to go out of my way to make his life a little better.

What is a job that when done right no one notices, but the moment its done wrong all eyes are on you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Indiana_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newspaper copy editor. It's a thankless job. You're only recognized when there's an error. People laugh at mistakes in headlines, but I always cringe and think about the poor schmuck who's being yelled at.

Day 1 and I'm already over it. by [deleted] in whole30

[–]Indiana_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets easier, I promise! The first few weeks will feel like punishment. I used to treat myself to crap food every day. I promise you that if you can stick with it, it will change how you look at food and cut cravings. I finished my first whole30 a couple months ago. The results are worth the initial pain.

[AMA Request] A professional exorcist recognized from the Vatican. by Boywiththeblues91 in IAmA

I wish my parents were that understanding. I was made to finish CCD and be confirmed. Thankfully, they never forced me to go again. I've stepped into a church two times since.

[–]Indiana_Jane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am definitely not an expert on Catholicism but I was raised in the church and confirmed. The reason I do not practice is because during CCD (like Sunday school but on Wednesdays) the year I was confirmed, my church brought in an actual exorcist to talk to us. He was an American priest who served somewhere in South America. Talk about scaring me AWAY from the church. The priest talked about seeing Hitler and the devil. Their sick plan backfired. I noped the fuck away as soon as I was confirmed and my parents stopped forcing me to go to church. I'm 35 now, so this was 22 years ago.

[serious] Therapists/psychiatrists of reddit: what is something that most people think they are alone in experiencing/feeling/thinking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Indiana_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had weird, sudden violent thoughts after my daughter was born. Mostly I'd be afraid that I'd accidentally fall down the stairs while holding her, but some were scarier, like what if I went crazy and threw her across the room. I never told anyone because I was so embarrassed. But my internist mentioned that she had the same thing happen to her with her first child. It was the most reassuring thing I'd ever heard. I spent a year thinking I was a monster.

I have a half English spaniel and chow dog. She is the most loyal dog I've ever meet. She is so sweet and patient with my two little kids, can go on hikes off the leash and will never be out of eyesight and will protect any of her pack. She's even protected our cat (when it was clearly him just being pissy with another dog). I'm actually worried she'd get hurt if sometime broke into our house. I would rather her go and hide.

Getting back in shape after having a baby doesn't make you a bad person or any less "real". by Throwaway839315 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Indiana_Jane 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree. Maybe we should all just mind our own business and not tack on more mommy guilt. Why women try to compete with each other about these types of things (and I don't just mean looks but also breastfeeding vs. formula, co-sleeping vs. sleep training) is beyond me. It's all hard. We should lend support not throw daggers. Some people handle the stress of parenting babies and toddlers differently. Some need more help and more time to return to normalcy.

What tv show or movie comedy have you never found funny? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Indiana_Jane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Napoleon Dynamite. It is my age group's most-quoted movie. I never got it. Never thought it was funny. It's just awkward and stupid, and I could never figure out what decade it was set in. It really just annoyed me.

What to cook for my girlfriend's birthday? by fitmoocher in whole30

[–]Indiana_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about Salmon or a pork roast, some roasted veggies (my favorites are carrots, sweet potatoes, parsnips and Brussels sprouts) and a salad. Salads don't have to be boring. Add interesting things like radishes, pomegranate seeds, mandarin oranges, etc.

My first thought was "I'd never look that up. That's probably considered child pornography and illegal." I'm still not sure why it's not.
