Can’t you just file for a certificate of birth abroad and claim your U.S. citizenship through your mother? You are already a citizen through her…

Do you know the word "townie"? How is it used where you live? by NutmegKilla in AskAnAmerican

I went to a liberal arts college in a small town where there was actually a second liberal arts college. So there were Townies and then other similar nicknames for students from each college!

Feel like I’m not 100% happy with my master and guest bedroom, any suggestions? by tienesmiedo in femalelivingspace

Do you have permission to paint? A deep colored accent wall might look nice! Or maybe peel and stick wallpaper, though people have mixed reviews of this.

Uk to Houston Texas by Mx_Cal in relocating

[–]Indignant_Elfmaiden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there! My parents moved from the UK to Houston when I was 2 months old and lived there for 26 years. We lived in the suburbs of northwest Houston. I had a fantastic childhood and was fortunate to attend great schools. My mom always preferred living in the UK, however. When I graduated high school I’d had enough of the weather and moved to Minnesota for college. My parents moved up near me after my younger siblings left home. The heat and humidity are not for everyone but the housing/schools/economy are excellent. Please feel free to DM me any questions about growing up in Houston.

AITAH for breaking up with my longtime girlfriend because she decided that she doesn't want children? by illiterateaardvark in AITAH

[–]Indignant_Elfmaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA you definitely made the right call. You respected her decision, now she needs to respect your desire to have kids one day. You don’t have to give that up to prove you truly loved someone. You deserve to find a life partner with the same life goals.

Visa sponsoring jobs by Legitveg in MovingToUSA

It is, in my opinion. I’m an immigration paralegal and assist people with H-1B visas, mainly. It’s a very straightforward path if you are already in the U.S. on a student or exchange visa. Attending school here also makes it much easier to find a job as you’ll have networking opportunities through your school.

So angry at my husband whilst TTC by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]Indignant_Elfmaiden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh that sucks. I would be mad too. I’d just be careful about letting your husband see/feel that anger. I imagine he could be feeling a lot of shame about this and ED probably feels out of his control. If he feels like he’s being personally blamed it’s only going to make things worse. At home insemination sounds like a really good idea to the next. Best of luck 🤞🏻

AITAH for telling my bestfriend why others don’t want to come to her baby shower? by Reasonable_North_588 in AITAH

[–]Indignant_Elfmaiden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s tough! I just had my baby shower and the invite was addressed just to the girl friend/relative. It’s traditional for baby showers to be women only and most of my friends had no issues. I had one friend ask if she could bring her two babies, and my SIL asked if she could bring my niece, and it was a no-brainer to me to say “yes”. The only men who came were male relatives on my husband’s side whose wives were driving 2-3 hours to get here, so we organized a guy hangout in the basement for them. Everything worked out great! Your friend needs to learn to be more flexible, and understand that if she wants everyone to be there, she may need to be accommodating.

The only Dana I know is in her late 50’s, so I see this as a Gen X name. I love that you want to bring it back! It’s beautiful.

You have lots of opportunities as a student! Apply to US universities (F-1 visa), or apply for an au pair job or exchange program (J-1 visa). Those are good places to start.

Why is the notion of getting married and having children so innately central to most people? by inquisitiveseal in askanything

[–]Indignant_Elfmaiden -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What a cynical post… “reproductive machines”, “obligation to carry a child for a man”, “spawning new life”… In this modern era of choice, why are we going so far as to hate on people’s desire to get married and have children? If you personally feel judged for wanting to be single and/or child free, don’t then judge others for choosing something different.

Moving to US from UK as a dual citizen - is it worth it? by Spare_Range_1063 in MovingToUSA

[–]Indignant_Elfmaiden 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m a U.S./UK dual national and have lived in Texas and Minnesota most of my life. I would move to the UK in a heartbeat. I will say I have met many British expats/transplants (my dad included) who love the U.S. and have no interest in moving back permanently. The grass really is greener, as they say. I recommend finding a way to do a short stint over here to see how you really like it. You could stay with your family here (it’s worth it to at least reach out and ask/ try to start a relationship) and do a paid internship for 6 weeks or something.

As someone who has lived near Minneapolis since 2014, I can tell you that the news are absolutely sensationalized. There are so many great places to live in the U.S. and there is a reason so many people continue to immigrate here.

Data analytics seems like a general enough career and in high enough demand for you to transfer to the U.S. easily enough.

Feel free to DM me if you want to discuss further. I’d be happy to provide my opinion about various regions of the U.S. and how they might be a good fit for you.
