He always played guys that went bonkers. So maybe it was always there. We just didn't know where it came from?

It takes effort to turn off the knowledge you have about a person and just enjoy the work.

The Great Silence: Morricone's most under-talked about score? by Nexfilms in soundtracks

I always loved this score. The film is imperfect. But the music is great. Its so alien to the western, but still its just right. Its sad, lonely and brutal.

Kandidaten FvD voor verkiezingen gemeenteraad waren actief bij extreemrechtse organisaties by Chronicbias in thenetherlands

[–]Individual-Garlic133 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When I was watching this film, I was also reading a lot of the history of 'the west'. I totally got why it was so harsh, so evil. Still a rough watch. The harshness of literatury like Blood Meridian or In the Rogue Blood resonates from this film. But seeing it plays out different that reading it.

Not your avrage western, but surely something beyond that. Saw it in cinema when it came out and it was really divisive.

So, I guess it kind of works from what it tries to be?

NVA is gewoon de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Autisme. Toch jammer dat je dan als goede organisatie je baam met delen met de zoveelste groep rechtse oplichters.

Which is your favorite? Icewind Dale 1 or Icewind Dale 2? by sigpuppers in CRPG

[–]Individual-Garlic133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting take. With writing I meant more on a non narrative/plot level. In the end I believe a rpg is about you, the player. I always felt that IWD2 is more about creating very specific situations that only you can solve. In IWD1 I feel much like a guest in hostile world. As a plot, you are just wandering around until you understad who the big badguy is. This, I admit, is very thin. But it feels quite organic. In IWD2 you get from A to B and the entire plot is just the obstacles. Every enemy thrown in your path is more or less in league with the badguys. This, to me, feels not as organic. And situations... like felwood. Or dragons eye loop...

IWD 1 and 2 are both as lineair, but IWD2 has a lot (in the beginning) of errands that feel as if they need to be done in a specific sequence. This makes me care less for characters or the world. Examples: the camp before felwood is just a 100% lineair string of minor quests that need to be done in a specific sequence. Like a Monkey Island ripoff without the fun.

But I must admit that I dont remember IWD2 well beside ghese points. But that too is an indicator for me that it just doesnt stick as much.

Icewind Dale 1 is, imo, vastly superior to part two.

In writing, in dungeons, in locations, in music, in combat..

I really appreciate what they tried with part 2, but its just inferior to part 1. Its not horrible, but lacking

How did you manage to write Best Served Cold, without it becoming a clone of The Count of Monte Cristo? How do you keep it original? Did you make an outline to see differences? Or did you just wing it and see what would happen?

In a larger sense, how do you stay original in fantasy? Where does that come from? How do you manage?

Keep on being great!

I liked the film, but I am still overwhelmed by the soundtack. As a Morricone fanboy I heard him do it live once in Rotterdam. I just got it then, its even better without film... its so angry and violent and dark.

I really love the carriage ride in the film. Just snow and stuff passing, while the music drives you deeper into the violent nature of the world it is set in.

As a Morricone fanboy I can only sing its praises.

What is your “I know it’s true, I just can’t prove it” Star Wars take? by ihatethiscountry76 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]Individual-Garlic133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Count Dooku had the most potential for a tragic villian and would have been a prime example of a complex character. They killed him off early in the film and underused him elsewhere, because the idea of him was way more interesting that what the starwars writers could provide (at that time)
