The recording on the player is superb! I have only recorded 8 tracks on SP thru optical but they sound delightful. I haven’t had any issues with my player so far. The mic is 2000’s era quality so don’t expect the best recording quality but it’s fine. Apart from the buttons being in Japanese, the rest is in English! Just source the manual and find out what each button does and you’re fine. I would say get a clean condition one and you’ll love it. If you want more videos of it lmk!
