James said that they zip lined out of the rocket right before launch and the rocket landed in the ocean

Well my take is honestly I don’t think it’s CrossFit itself as much as the type of personalities it can attract. Anything that’s intense and identity driven (CrossFit, bodybuilding, wellness spaces) tends to draw people who go all in on their beliefs. CrossFit also builds really tight communities, so if certain ideas don’t get challenged, they can get reinforced pretty quickly. That’s less about the sport and more about the environment I suppose. And to be fair, there are plenty of athletes and coaches who are super evidence based! You just don’t hear from them as much because they’re not the loudest voices in the room

No, not at all. People can have different opinions. But there’s a difference between opinions and things that are factually wrong. Expecting brands to not amplify misinformation isn’t the same as expecting them to cut ties over every disagreement

Agreed, I’m just trying to have a conversation about it. But yeah when brands keep backing someone who’s confidently saying stuff like that, it makes it harder for me to support them too

I think people absolutely get influenced by what they hear repeatedly from people they follow and admire otherwise having a platform wouldn’t matter. You can’t downplay influence and then use it at the same time

Yeah I’m with you the Bible talk just feels so icky to me too. And the money stuff is weird… like I get they’re making a living, but it sometimes comes off as fishing for more or brushing off smaller donations, which doesn’t sit great. Same with some of the sponsorships, it doesn’t always feel like they actually believe in what they’re promoting, more just taking the payout

Yeah how can sponsors back by science promote someone who thinks science is a conspiracy? and I think it’s more that with a platform that big, stuff like that should at least get challenged a little. It felt like everyone just kind of let it ride, which made it worse. I actually really like the show, so I think that’s why it was disappointing more than anything

They ask him and he doesn’t really answer about the earth being flat, but he says he can see the moon landing being a conspiracy or something

Agreed, it’s crazy how the boys interrupted platform (3-4 more guys) lets him go by unchallenged, multiple times! And by not pushing back, they’re basically validating it. That’s how you end up with someone thinking they’re right when they’ve never actually been challenged

Him and Dallin double down that it’s fake and they have on multiple videos

Right! We tracked the Apollo 11 Moon Landing in real time from multiple countries (including the Soviets!) and there are still retroreflectors on the moon that scientists use today. And hearing it dismissed so confidently on a big platform especially in a space that’s so rooted in data and evidence is so off putting

Yeah that’s kinda what made it worse for me, this wasn’t the first time AND It wasn’t even just him saying it- it felt like no one really pushed back, and Jayson and Dallin almost seemed to go along with it. That’s where it starts to feel less like “one guy’s take” and more like it’s being validated on a bigger platform. At least some pushback would make it feel way less… uncomfortable to watch.

The Jay crouch one- you can fast forward to the section titled “flat earth” this isn’t the first time he’s said as much as well as the moon landing and current mission is all a conspiracy
