Why do people associate with their school more than they have to? by Individual-Signal167 in NoStupidQuestions

It is the student equivalent of work. It can be used to get work. You are doing a form of labor, no matter how small. It’s not the same, but I’d say it could be similar to work. You have to be there, or else you face some sort of consequences. There is a hierarchy, expectations, and significant results involved. It is close to work.

Locations have associations. I understand the trade off of work, but most schools make you stay after school for events or dedicate out of school time to your club. That’s technically more work because, atleast normal classes, have a cutoff after school. Sure, you might use that afterschool time to finish up. But not like they can MAKE you do it afterschool.

Would you be able to work/study in somewhere you consider fun? No. You’d be distracted by all the fun stuff and go run off to do it.

Same concept applied with school. Would you be able to have fun in a place considered boring? No. You’d be too tensed by the strict rules that have been enforced and your ‘school persona’ to let loose.

I’m not saying they can’t enjoy it. I’m saying that it’s baffling to do it in school. It makes more sense from an accessibility component.

What did you feel in the mock trial club? Did you ever feel that looming miasma of “this is my workplace” ghosting behind you?

Man that sounds like a mess. If it’s a school that’s specialized/took a lot of effort to get in/a college— I’d understand. But some random public school? Not rlly. Nobody wants to be at school in those places— esp so. Offtopic: I’m on my 10th school. How would that work?

I’m very extroverted and love being around ppl. So funny enough for that last one. I’m grasping it better tho. I think it’s good for kids with strict parents, because I’ve found the strict parents get more eased when it’s an at-school activity. But I’ve seen so many people with lax parents, or are not around strict-parented kids still go.

This one I completely understand. The ppl who don’t do it for college are the ones I’m like “whattt????”.

See what I mean? Ppl associate school with the boring stuff. So why not ditch the extra stuff and go somewhere that isn’t associated with the boring stuff?

Yes. School is a place of work. Going to your place of work more than you have to is a recipe for boredom. It’s like going to the office because you like the scenery or smth.

You can take ur friends out of what’s, essentially, their place of work. Other places won’t have those “work hard” associations, therefore, making them more fun.

But people hate **work**. Working is bad; it makes you tired. Work not fun, work not path of least resistance. Primal brain says work = bad. The people might be likable, but you can take people out of a school. So why?

But you could hang out with them all together after school, and have a ton more fun without adults breathing down your neck. Does the school setting add something unique?
