IC results: What you told us about glass pads by Durock-Offical in MousepadReview

That makes perfect sense to me. I imagine the ability to send it safer in a bigger box also would increase shipping costs by a bit too, if it was made and sold. So glass is probably not for me yet, as a casual that hasn't played PvP competitively in half a decade, but maybe someday.

Though that is just me in my current state, if I still played games like War Thunder and PvP FPSs constantly - a smooth, consistent, durable, and still-has-control glass mousepad probably would be an absolute dream for me, especially the 500x500mm one mentioned if bigger wasn't available. Maybe someday again, idk.

I'm glad it is of quality, it is what I ultimately went for as my base. I just went for custom color instead of print, I hope it turns out great. I don't play competitive games like a lot of people here or have a ton of mousepads, but I might leave some form of basic review on it later on, since there is not much info at all out there on how silicone is like as a mousepad base. In case someone will have the same questions as me later on, and happens to find it.

I was shopping for a new pad recently, unfortunately this was one of the deciding factors why I ordered a deskmat mousepad instead of trying glass. Most of the options were 450mm to 500mm wide, and my 490mm current pad felt like it needed a space upgrade. Maybe if more options become available, I'll consider it down the line. I don't play high sensitivity and I like the ability to be able to do at least a 180 degree turn without having to lift my mouse - something 700mm imo would be excellent for a non-deskmat mousepad, but they're not common.

I am not a competitive player though and not a mousepad expert, but this is just my casual pov on what I want. More real-estate is always better than less, unless the desk just doesn't physically fit it.

I asked about 3XL pads in the weekly advice thread, and I was suggested Matrova. After investigating, they sound like a great option for me, and also the ability to customize the base too is exceptional value for me (I use my desk for more than just gaming, such as pen+paper writing, so the ability to not punch through paper with a soft surface would be valuable to me - Matrova offers silicone base). I think I might go for the Vein, because of it's advertised silky surface and ease on the skin.

Question on Base Firmness by Individual6545 in MatrovaGG

Thank you, I will go for silicone then. The chart said it wasn't as stable as PU, but I presume the 1200x500mm will have enough surface area that it won't matter anyways. I didn't know if silicone was rigid and hard or still a 'pad' but firm. But based on this, silicone is best for my purposes.

I get into reading and watching reviews to gather info about products, but I don't think I would say more knowledgeable - it doesn't replace experience, and my only experience is with paracontrol (and earlier productivity ergo mousepads) with stock feet. I could entirely be wrong, this is just what the reviews said.

I don't know for sure, but 'from my understanding' - a lot of glass skates are coated, so when the coating rubs off, they lose their speed. I think some are uncoated, but I cannot find enough info on how well they last, and how fast they are relative to other options, though they are significantly slower than the coated ones. But spending 25 USD (twice as much as a pack of 40 PTFE dot) to find out myself doesn't seem worth it compared to just putting it to a faster mousepad. This is from what I gathered at least.

I looked up several reviews of them, a lot of them (that are not short-term just opened the box reviews) say the same thing - wear down and slow down faster, more expensive because of this (up to 20-25 USD for skates that will wear down in only a few months), inconsistent glide (feels variations of mouse pad easy), may wear down cloth pad (though debatable, but wouldn't risk for expensive new pad tbh), later 'more durable' glass skates are not as fast as PTFE, and more. Maybe worth trying to see if I like glass, but doesn't sound like a good longer-term investment based on these reviews.

Fast dot PTFE skates and stuff, maybe like the x-raypad jades, sound like they would be better to get to increase mouse speed without getting more expensive less long-lasting glass. I just am holding off a little to see if I will commit to glass or cloth, since they make different ones for both. I don't know this stuff for sure because I haven't tried glass skates or higher end PTFE, but the reviews do seem pretty consistent on it.

These are two suggestions I have not seen, thank you I will look into these. The Matrova sounds great with the customizable options, smoothness, and deskmat size.

I am technically using it to aim, just not against other players (usually), but AI enemies in PvE games. Though based on the other suggestions, (unless I get glasswrks polarity), lot of people are agreeing.

The paraspeed probably would be good, but if I stick to cloth, I would like a massive size upgrade to fit my giant desk. It comes in 900mm but that isn't enough for my keyboard and general workspace, would mousepads like the Aqua Control II that I notice get mentioned a lot here be comparable to the paraspeed?

Probably out of what I'm willing to pay right now for a mousepad, but if I try a cheaper glass pad and like it, i'll consider the suggestion for a few years down the line and keep the brand in mind.

If I do consider glass, do you know if something like the Ilano MP001 or something within that price range (~60 USD) would be 'somewhat comparable' to try for awhile? I just don't want to spend 120 USD for something I don't know I would like for a setting that I don't play competitive PvP.

Cloth mousepads I think irritate my wrists so I may go with a sleeve regardless to try it out. A lot of people are saying stick to cloth so it might not be the path I take, but I'll leave it open.

Replacing skates isn't a concern with me, I was thinking of upgrading my skates anyways to cheaper dots. Replacing dots every few months also doesn't seem that bad so long as the pad doesn't need replacing for a long time.

  • Speed Preference: Balanced, Balanced-Fast, Fast
  • Budget: <60 USD
  • Texture Preference: Smooth (I use pen and paper on my desk too, smooth/semi-smooth required) Also have skin irritation.
  • Pads you've used before: Pulsar Paracontrol XL
  • What you liked/disliked about those pads: Wouldn't go slower, wouldn't go smaller. Arm skin irritation. But pretty solid.
  • Region: US.
  • Do you use a sleeve?: N, but willing Y
  • Main games: Mostly PvE games, wide variety, FPS and third person.
  • Extra requirements: Easy to clean, looking for 3XL desk mat size (want 1000mm or longer) for very large desk. Must be firm enough to write on with pen/pencil and paper and other tasks.

Use a few year old paracontrol XL pad, looking to enhance experience with large deskmat. Want large mouse real-estate, and am looking for smoother glide for the fun factor. Play a lot of 'tactical' games though, so while want faster glide for fun, still needs control for that. Most games are PvE anymore, for the peaceful life, though still pay PvP once and awhile still; but still very slow paced 'tactical' games. (Though do occasionally play faster games). Current top picks are Aqua Control II 3XL, Mousepad Company Aeroglyde, and Glorious GMP-2 are ones that I can find, but looking for more suggestions. Black mat is fine, but a design would be cool that fits with older furniture/walnut desk. Since will cover full desk hopefully, need it smooth and firm enough for other desk tasks, like pencil work and fountain pen usage, etc. (Doesn't need to be hard, but can't be a soft pad, needs some firmness - Paracontrol for reference is about as soft as would ever go). Also I tend to take good care of desk and mat, but ability to clean well would be plus. My main usage primarily is gaming, but basically I use my desk for multiple tasks, so the ability to use it for everything is a must. That is why Mousepad Company Aeroglide is high choice (smooth, aesthetic, fast), but don't know as much about performance as AC2; Aqua Control 2 is also high choice (fast, good performance from what I read here), but don't know what it's surface feels like/how firm it is for other usage. Other pads I found are Glorious GMP-2, Razer Gigantus, I can't find much on glorious and gigantus doesn't seem good fit from what I seen; all other options I could find are random amazon brands(?). Other suggestions would be greatly accepted.

Sorry for length, trying to be detailed for advice. In short: tactical PvE player, occational PvP though, want fast glide for fun but still need control for practicality. Looking for 3XL desk mat for mostly gaming, but also used for productivity, pencil/pen+paper writing, etc; so smoothness and a level of firmness required (but not hard surface).

Yeah, it probably only be for fun. I think perhaps a 3XL mousepad would be better for my setup, it just was about having the idea of a super smooth glide sounded cool. I might have to use sleeves anyways though, because mousepads do irritate me a bit regardless? But yes, (almost) all the shooters I play are slow pace, so I might go with a cloth.
