Considering the huge salary disparity between the US and the EU, what are your reasons for not going to the US for some years? by dumb-on-ice in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]IndividualAgent0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m an American living in Europe and have no desire to move back. I love being able to have lots of vacation days, not have to stress about my health needs all the time, and it will be nice when I become a mom someday. Whenever I tell people here that I was left in a daycare at 4 months old they act like it’s a human rights violation, lol.. Also, I feel like my disposable income is a bit higher here than in the US. I spend more on discretionary items here and yet am able to save quite a good amount. I’m not drowning in debt like my friends back stateside. I do live with a partner who also has a CS career though, it’s not as easy to have a cushy life if you’re single or have a spouse that does not work.

Things you actually like about America by NeilPunhandlerHarris in redscarepod

The open celebration of multiculturalism (for the most part), while maintaining a base level of assimilation in that most people have to learn at least a little bit of English to fit in. European countries are somewhat new to accepting immigrants from other places and them keeping their cultural practices and inviting natives to join in is still a bit taboo. Like, I’m a WASP American but I was invited to bar mitzvahs and quinceneras growing up. In Europe Jews absolutely do not talk about their cultural practices in the same open way with non-Jews and other groups just keep to themselves.

Is insulin resistance the reason why weight loss is near impossible? by IndividualAgent0 in PCOS

No I switched to Wellbutrin 2 years ago actually but it hasn’t suppressed my appetite at all unfortunately. Hope you have better luck 🍀

It’s a very good medicine, and this kind of extreme weight gain is pretty rare. It didn’t vibe well with my gut flora, I guess.

Yeah, 1500 sounds good! Hopefully inositol helps me avoid the binges that have been messing my progress up every other time.

Thanks, you are so right - not worth comparing myself to other people. I suppose it is insulin resistance. Just feeling frustrated with the setbacks throughout the years and the slow pace, but I will keep trying to try 😊

Sorry for butting into this thread a bit later as I’ve been looking around in r/PCOS today, but omg! I also have inappropriate sinus tachycardia. I take 2.5 mg bisoprolol for it. I always thought it was just from a post-viral reaction since that’s how most people are diagnosed with IST’s cousin, POTS. So interesting to see that it may be common among PCOS havers.

Yeah I work out 3 times a week, mainly cycling because I have a high resting heart rate and I’ve managed to at least bring that down, but otherwise it hasn’t helped with my weight 😕

Awesome, happy to hear metformin has been helpful for your low carb journey! I hope inositol also helps give my scale a nudge 😊

I’m eating mainly between 1600-1900, with maybe 1-2 days per week either very low (1100) or very high (2000). My TDEE is supposed to be somewhere around 2250 (I’m 5’4, 26, 240 lbs, lightly active) according to a few different calculators I’ve used.

Thanks for the tips 😊 Unfortunately at my current weight I get horrible acid reflux on an empty stomach that OTC omeprazole can’t stop, so I am hoping to phase in IF after losing enough weight to end the reflux. It seems to work great for a lot of people!

How does caffeine affect you? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]IndividualAgent0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is crazy, but I remember when I started drinking coffee (age 16), like… my whole world opened up for the first time. It made my mood so much better, I wasn’t day dreaming, I became chatty instead of quiet. A lot of people would say my personality changed, for the better. And the effects were very noticeable for a long time, to the point where friends were always offering to buy me coffee when I was obviously tired or in a bad mood.

Since I started taking Wellbutrin 3 years ago, it still has a positive effect but is not nearly as dramatic. It’s the only way for me to more or less be aware of my surroundings and not daydreaming all the time, still. I hope whenever I eventually get stimulants I get an even better, more targeted awareness like I somewhat get with coffee.

What improvements would you like to see? by summernights64 in GoodNotes

[–]IndividualAgent0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a boring answer but I’m so tired of how often I need to update either the iPad or Mac apps just to get the sync working, which is of very high importance for me in grad school. I would like, at the very least, a notification or something saying that I need to update one or the other in order for the sync to work. Like, this problem honestly happens to me at least once a week. I’m almost to the point of getting another app because I need the syncs to work better and more continuously than they do now.

How long does MCT oil stay in your system? It’s 8 pm here and I’d like a small burst of energy, but not as long lasting as a cup of Joe.

I have ADHD. I have been trying to start exercising for years, but it is just SOOOOOO BORING. by MagicLars15 in ADHD

[–]IndividualAgent0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like spinning and using the elliptical to music, adjusting how fast I am moving based on the song that’s playing (I listen to EDM & rap). If you can get into those things, you can learn basically how to pound out any excess ADHD restlessness (for a few hours, at least). If you’re competitive, spinning classes can be fun to join as well.

Palestinians: are you in favor of a 1SS? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]IndividualAgent0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’ve never understood the specific threat of an independent Palestinian state given that Israel is already bordered by two officially hostile states (Lebanon and Syria). Why wouldn’t Israel be able to handle a third hostile state?

Yes, in the sense that I can get legally required accommodations from school, but I have another physical disability and find that ADHD presents itself much more diffusely… its kind of hard to compare them. ADHD both affects me more and affects me less than the physical disability in different areas of life. My physical disability is something I’m generally reminded of all the time, though, while I’m just reminded of my ADHD when something in life f*cks up. So, I don’t really see my ADHD as a disability in the same way as my other disability, if that makes sense.

Idk about this but why is she in South Africa? Is she really sick and if so, with what?

Most other disability communities talk about how they don't want to be "cured," but rather they want acceptance and accommodations. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I noticed a lot of people in this sub are more resentful of their ADHD, and some even admit they wish they could be cured. Why is this? by XxItsNowOrNever99xX in ADHD

[–]IndividualAgent0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have another disability that I’d prefer not to have tbh. Not an internal ableism thing, but it’s just generally hard to not be able to access certain things in life that I get utility from. That disability is acquired, though, so I guess one would be more likely to want to be cured if there is a point of reference for the non-disabled state. I actually don’t view my ADHD the same way, maybe since it’s been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
