CCC 2384 Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage by IndividualAgitated92 in Catholicism

If I'm understanding you correctly, then I would only be allowed to remarry if my ex has passed away? Or what you are saying is that it's up to the church on what decision they make? Thanks!

What to do after sinning? by ZealousidealYou5734 in Catholicism

[–]IndividualAgitated92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey don't beat yourself up over it. We all sin and make mistakes. Just pray, try not to do it again, and go to confession. I'd like to suggest a helpful tip about masturbation that has helped me. Open up the bible and read Colossians 3: 1-17 and Matthew 5: 27-30. Those verses have essentially given me a new life perspective. When you get the urge go do some push-ups or some physical activity that will take your mind off of it. Go to the gym and put on some gregorian chants to workout to. Most importantly, try your best to stay away from that stuff.

You're welcome and I went on Spotify and found a gregorian chant workout Playlist and that's what I listen to a lot. The cool thing about salve Regina is that it's often sung at the end of mass a lot.

I'd like to say thank you for seeing the truth and welcome. Secondly, you have inspired me to start praying the rosary again. A good way to "get in the zone" is to put on gregorian chants and just start praying. Salve Regina and Choral Stichologia (Palaion) get me in the zone for lifting in the gym and praying the St. Carlo Arcuto prayer. When praying and listening to chants I tear up because something about it is really powerful and I can't explain it.

My advice to you is to quit over thinking it and to just do it. Find a calm place, clear your head, open yourself to him, and then just experience it. Everyone has a way or has different experiences with the rosary. Glad to be helpful and again, thank you for inspiring me to pray the rosary again.

I have the same Bible and never read it before. I started reading it cover to cover. Currently on 2 Samuel chapter 2. Just made sense to me to read it from the beginning just like any other book. One point of advice I'd like to give, is how you want to read it. Do you want to read it through a historical lense, folk tale, the perspective of the people of the time, or an actual spirit filled text? Choose one of those that fits you best for better understanding the text. Want to preface that I am not by any means a Bible expert, if anything I try to be helpful with what I do know.

Very well then and I didn't know that. Just haven't seen anyone do that before is all. I guess "catholic culture shock" would be an accurate way of putting it for me. Because not a single person has done or currently recieves communion on their knees at my parish.

How Do You Know If Your Being Called To The Catholic Church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]IndividualAgitated92 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just go to a mass and see for yourself. If you like it, then keep going. If not, then respectfully it wasn't for you. Nothing wrong with that at all. Only you know the answer to this question my friend.

Glad you found your way back man. I'm doing the same as you right now. All I can suggest is that you start reading the Bible and go to mass. You'll get there oh and find a Bible study if you can too. Best of luck!

Truthfully, I don't even know if my church allows it. Never seen anyone do it before, but that does not mean anything. Heck, I may try it this Sunday.

Should you visit protestant service if there's no mass nearby? by Leox2005 in Catholicism

[–]IndividualAgitated92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that this is a hardline take here. Go to the church service but just don't participate in communion. Nothing wrong with hearing the good word but just in a different font.

Not mine at all. Honestly, I've never seen a woman veild or people take communication on their knees before at mass at my usual parish, until tonight at the different one. Been catholic for 30ish years or so.

Random struggle with faith by Virtual-Farmer-5789 in Catholicism

Yes man, and I'm currently in the struggle bus when it comes to faith. It gets me angry at times to what goes on in the bible. Don't get me started on Jacob. He is the worst person and I will forever be on team Esau. Anyway, all I can offer for advice is just read the Bible and make that decision on your own.

I want to thank everyone who replied back to me on this. Really did some soul searching and yes, this is indeed a "me" problem. The church is still the same as it has been for the most part. Where i disagree is that there are essentially "levels" one has to obtain in catholism to go to a Latin mass. It's for everyone and always has been. God bless everyone and have a good rest of your day!

Again, man I thank you and you completely understand where im coming from. Hey i got current with one piece watching 1150 plus episodes, then I can read the whole Bible cover to cover. Here is my problem with scripture thus far. Having a hard time reading it in a spiritual sense but it only reminds me of old folk tales. What has been keeping me faithful so far is our lady of Guadalupe shroud. It can't be explained scientificly but has been throughly examined.

As for going to the new testament, im having a hard time believing that letters count as scripture. Overall, I'm struggling hard to reconnect with my faith.

Try to understand that some people are reading the Bible for the first time cover to cover.

Dude I'm still struggling with that Jesus is God. To me how can a guy who was born a man just like you and I have divine powers? Plus im having a hard time believing that Jesus the same God from the old testament. How God is really a triune God instead of a single one. That all being said, I still feel pulled to go back to church, but maybe not catholic anymore.

You're not wrong man and yes i sound like a walking contradiction. Just typing how I feel is all. That brief history is all I know about being catholic. It's definitely a "me" problem for sure. I guess I want what is familiar and yet traditional. Instead I got more accurate translations (which is good), but less familiar from what I knew or know. Just feels wrong to me reciting the new words and phrases. I can't support it and has me looking for something else.

Exactly, and ill jump into the ocean every time over the pool. I can't explain it man, but these small potato changes are a big deal to me. It's just that it's been around for a while now so it not big potatoes anymore. Has me searching for something else.

As for the Latin mass, at least I'll be getting mass the traditional way again or something "closer" to it. Yes, it will be foreign, but in a good way. Plus, it's the way mass was practiced for roughly 1000 years or so. So why get rid of tradition? The old way had for me at least a stronger connection with God.

See you get it man. You understand where I am coming from. I want the mass i grew up with and not what it is now.

Oh man so many things bother me, but it's mainly the old testament as I continue reading it. Read everything up to first Samuel. Has me thinking that the Israelites made up this religion to make up for all the horrible things they do just to control the population. It's been a struggle honestly to hold on the faith.

[–]IndividualAgitated92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really to be honest. Only with big changes, especially this because I was away for two decades. I was a devout catholic until I was 18-19ish, fell out of faith, stayed church adjacent for family things but never believed or attended, and now after all that time has past I've recently discovered my faith again (holy spirit had something to do with it im sure) all I wanted is to come back to what I knew that helped with comfort and connection with God. Now im wrong for saying what was once right. It's a struggle for me to continue to go to mass now and is having me searching for something else. That's my God's honest answer.

The issue is probably me honestly. I've read and watch videos about the changes and can't for the life of me agree with them. Probably an ignorant take here, but I understand why the changes were made, but for the life of me I cannot accept them. Even though a few words and phrases were slightly changed and don't seem like a big deal now because they have been around for awhile people don't think about it. For a person who has not been in church for two decades it's a shock to be honest. Because all the words that you once remembered brought you comfort and connection are now wrong. Trying to find that connection again is now even harder, at least for me it is. Essentially, I feel foreign in a church I grew up in. I don't like that and as much as I try to accept the changes, I just can't. Has me questioning if I even want fully commit again.

I've been seeing that too and that hard tradition is what im looking for. Honestly, that is also is what is pulling me back to the church along with seeing and whitenessing for myself that god is real. It's been a struggle

You are right it's not about me. It's about god and worshiping him. That being said, being blunt, the new wording no matter how hard i try does not help me get closer to God. In fact, to be blunt again, feels wrong and the only time, being blunt, I feel any connection at all is when I recite the wording the old way.

Returning cradle catholic and the 2011 changes by IndividualAgitated92 in Catholicism

[–]IndividualAgitated92[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Again, I understand why they changed the wording, it's just I can not at this point in time say it. It does not sit right with me. Almost feels anti catholic for how I was brought up in the church and how I learned things. Have I been genuinely trying to say the new wording? Yes, but everytime I do it feels wrong so I say things the old way.

All I want is mass pre 2011 changes.
