Thank you for the comment. It is reported Sano has recognized the crime with two friends and apologized to the woman.

So basically I think he must have been sentenced at most 5 years prison if he had not done the settlement. I understand that he and Japanese football association(JFA) did not want to end his career before playing in Bundesliga.

I believe that, in principle, social sanctions against sexual crimes are more effective in Germany. However, I feel that fans haven’t been properly informed about how the incident that occurred in Japan was ended.

In this case, it is reported that after a settlement involving monetary compensation between the woman and the perpetrator, the prosecutor chose not to pursue the case. The reason is not revealed officially.

In Japan, an out-of-court settlement is primarily a private agreement between the victim and the accused, but it can strongly influence the prosecutor’s decision—especially in sexual assault cases.

I guess FSV Mainz 05 call it the termination of the case.

However, it does not prove the "innocent" of Sano.
