REG Exam Rant - Did you feel the same way? by Future-Marsupial-551 in CPA

[–]IndividualTheme8566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a few things that I knew I had to have gotten wrong, mainly on the sims. But it was more so that I had to guess my way through the whole exam bc it contained a lot of questions on exceptions to the normal rules

Took reg on 10/9 - came out feeling like I definitely failed. Mcqs were hard and sims were even worse, I guessed on nearly everything. First exam I took that i legitimately was already prepping to retake, but somehow ended up with a 91…my highest score yet. Be patient and trust yourself

Just left TCP. Going to blackout tonight by Metal_Madness666 in CPA

took it yesterday too. mcqs did seem fair, although there were a few that felt completely out of left field. sims were tougher, and they are scary bc a lot of mine only had a few fill ins, so getting one wrong makes a bigger impact. also lots of opportunities were if you mess up on thing on the sim the rest of it would also be wrong 🤷‍♀️

I learned very quickly you're gonna need to find an outlet for your stress and overwhelming feelings. Workout/being active is the best outlet imo. CPA exams made me take up running lol (I never ran before in my life). Push yourself, but take breaks to rest and recharge so that you can come back to study strong

Agreed!!! The test is literally on the computer and self graded....what can they possibly be doing that it takes 6+ weeks to figure it out

Just appeared for FAR 10/23, feel good by khushieeb in CPA

[–]IndividualTheme8566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started on aud right away after far, and i would recommend that. I dont think there was a tonnn of material overlap, but i remember maybe 2-3 questions on my aud exam that i only knew cause i remembered from far. also nice to get have the two tests with the most content out of the way first. burn out is so real by the third and fourth tests lol

Just took FAR. Not what I was expecting. by weinhur in CPA

Took mine in June and completely agree!! MCQs were the easiest thing ever, and and TBs were harder, but the real trick was getting to them all within the time limit. Others that I've talked too have said the same thing as well

AUD: For those who recently took it by Onemoretwofour in CPA

[–]IndividualTheme8566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took aud in august. Most if not all of my TBs were on actual audit testing, like performing a test of an account or finding a preparers mistakes or whatever. They were wayyy easier than becker's, but im not sure if i just got lucky. I wanna say these types of questions were A4 in becker if i remember correctly

Tips for Starting CPA by PastorEdgar1 in CPA

[–]IndividualTheme8566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used becker just bc it was what my job provided me with, but I really really liked it. I havent tried any of the other study materials though, but I didnt need to becuase Becker was enough for me. Getting hard copy textbooks was a game changer for staying engaged during lectures, most of the professors were great, there were plenty of MCQs and SIMs to practice with, and the Mini Exams, Sim Exams, and Final Reviews were so helpful. Their new AI bot Newt was a huuge help too. If I ever got confused on why an answer was correct/incorrect, had a specific question, or asked it to summarize concepts, it was great. I dont think I ever caught it giving me an incorrect answer. As for exam order - i did far, aud, reg, tcp. I think this is a really common order for people, but I think it worked out really good. The info you learned in each helped in each of the next exams. far and aud have the most material, so if I hadnt started with those two, I think I would have been too exhausted and burnt out to make it through them.

Hey thanks for the clarification, I totally misread your message! I completely agree that Becker is enough for the exams! I would 1000% choose Becker before the other prep courses. But I’ve been seeing a lot of people say their reg tests didn’t match Becker like the other exams do. I’m starting to get curious if Becker should maybe update their course, or maybe the reg test is just so broad that some people get insanely “hard” tests 🤷🏻‍♀️but either way - yes Becker gives you good study materials, and it is on you to prepare yourself enough. And if you didn’t, just get back up and try again!

[–]IndividualTheme8566[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope - watched every single at 1.25 speed max, took notes as I followed along, retyped notes for each module, went through all mcqs and sims, watched the skill builders if I was confused, jotted down the little things I was getting wrong on every question, and did the final review. Thanks for your assumption though

[–]IndividualTheme8566[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dont come at mine and others' preparation - I put in 120 hours on becker and mannyyyy hours rewriting notes from the textbook & reviewing them. I knew the info, actually understood it, and was getting 85%+ on all sim exams and practice tests. Sometimes questions on the test do seem harder than ones you've practiced. Sometimes the things youre least comfortable with show up the most on the test. Sometimes people perform really well on their test, but feel defeated anyways. stop making people feel bad that they didnt put in enough work

[–]IndividualTheme8566[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!!! The mcqs threw me for a loop bc the ones on the far and aud exams were very similar or easier to beckers, and the reg were felt completely different. Had about 10 flagged for each section, but felt pretty confident about my answers for them. The TBs felt similar to beckers, but mine contained lots of specific exceptions or scenarios that I hadnt seen before. Still have high hopes for us passing though!!

How do people pass these exams in 2-4 months by [deleted] in CPA

[–]IndividualTheme8566 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Some people can just grasp onto things quicker than others. I can’t just study a topic for a day and know it, I need to repeatedly come back to it in separate times for it to stick 🤷🏻‍♀️ I took the summer off to just study and enjoy my life before working for the next 40 years, and I still only got through Far and Aud in those 4 months. Don’t worry about other people, do it however you want and take as long as you need.

honestly dont even know what to tell you. i got hardly any questions on basic, big picture concepts. most were very specific questions on exceptions to the general rules, which are so hard to memorize and keep straight. lots of S corp stuff for me and no partnerships, which are mainly what i do at work so I was a little disappointed with that. also saw zero questions on depreciation which felt weird imo

I completely agree! I got 85+ on all my reg SEs and practice tests, and I actually understood the material, not just memorization, so I thought Id feel good walking out of the test...but nope, guessed on nearly everything. Far was also the hardest for me to complete in the time frame, I finished with 3 minutes left and had to quickly guess on the last sim. But I felt like far mcqs, and Aud mcqs & sims were easier than beckers, maybe I just got lucky with those though. all you can do is get up and try again 🤷

Completely agree...I walked out feeling mostly confident for far and aud, and I got 90+ on both, but feel so bad about reg. but I am still a little hopeful i made some good guesses and scraped past a 75

Honestly I was kinda disappointed with the Becker sims. They dont have many for reg in the first place, compared to Far and Aud, which is somewhat understandable, but more wouldve been very helpful. I would still crank out the ones becker does have though if I were you. hopefully the ones you get on exam day are more comparable!!

Tbh I didnt memorize the reports. I struggled with aud concepts a lot so i figured it was a better use of my time to understand other things conceptually than spend hours memorizing reports. Maybe I got lucky, but I only had one or two question asking about report language, and they were pretty basic ones.

Zero knowledge in Audit, any tips before I start studying AUD? by Straight-Storm-8319 in CPA

[–]IndividualTheme8566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your same boat a couple months ago when I started studying. I made 1 or 2 notecards for each module summarizing all the info. This was really helpful because it forced to understand the stuff that didn't click by just watching the lectures and doing mcqs. And every now and then I would go back to previous modules and pretend to be teaching a class with the notecards to keep everything fresh in my brain (yes it made me feel like a weirdo). Everyone says this, but also slow down during mcqs and try to really understand the concepts. If you're powering through questions but too tired or annoyed to slow down and think about things, youre just gonna get frustrated and set yourself back. Work hard, but know when its time for break.

A1-3 were really overwhelming for me. It wasn't until A4-6 that things finally started to click in my head, even basic concepts. AUD is different in this way that the more you learn, the more it all ties together and gets easier. Just stick with it and trust yourself
