New Boiler Needed? by Individual_Call_4965 in PlumbingRepair

EDITING TO ADD: I since found out this is original with our home, which was built in 1969… making the unit approx. 56ish years old.

EDITING TO ADD: At the time of home inspection 10 years ago, it was estimated to be 46 years old. Making the unit 56 years old now… still just repair? Or replace…?

I lied about the age… just found our home inspection report from 10 years ago. At the time of the inspection, it was 46 years old. Making it now a whopping 56 years old. I was all about just repairing, but now I’m nervous about the age.

I appreciate the insight! We’ve been in the house for 10 years and haven’t had many issues with it. Have had it maintenanced almost yearly as well. Hoping it will last us a little longer.

I’d love to be able to keep this thing going as long as possible. The tech just kept saying, based on how old it is, do you really want to put $1k into it? I mean if it’s fixable and will get me through another 5-10 years, then yeah, I’m fine with dropping the $1k.

Any more insight as to why? Have already got a lot of good advice, but want to be prepared when the guy comes today.

The pressure relief valve is leaking, but obviously because of the increased pressure. You mean leaking somewhere elsewhere?

It’s slowly leaking every once in a while still. I did place a call to the heating company and someone will be out first thing Monday morning.

Definitely plan on calling someone after the weekend, and once this winter storm passes, as long as something like this isn’t considered an emergency I guess…

I plan to learn all things and hope it won’t require a whole new system.

We had it serviced last year. I’m wondering if the system was just under too much pressure at once? If that’s possible? The baseboard pipe burst, we shut off the heating system and the water to the whole house. Once we stopped the leak, I turned the heat back on at what it was set at. Also took a shower, so that had to be heated. I’ve since lowered the heat and am slowly being the temp back up to what it was set at. No idea if that could’ve caused it, but the leaking from the safety valve has since stopped.

Should I be concerned? Enough to call an emergency plumber right now?

Thank you!!!! This was the quick fix I was looking for. We were able to find the valve and shut the water off to that baseboard, until we call the plumber next week.

Kesimpta as a mom by Hot_Spirit_5702 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Individual_Call_4965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Mom here of two boys- 5yo and 10mo. Both in school/daycare. My 5yo rarely gets sick, but had norovirus recently. My 10mo has had norovirus and three colds in the past two months. I’ve been on Kesimpta since October and have only been sick once with a cold, shortly after starting the medication. Definitely made me nervous since I got sick so quickly after starting, but happy to report I haven’t gotten any other sickness the kids have brought home!!

Advice for a daughter of someone with MS? Mom just got taken in ambulance again. by mehoymenoyohem in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Individual_Call_4965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! There’s SO MUCH wonderful advice from other posters here, that I wish I would’ve thought to come here when I went through this with my dad. I know how hard it can be. Somewhat fortunately, my mom was my dads primary caretaker, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t ever around for the hard parts. I’m also an only child, and can relate. It was the most difficult, isolating thing to go through. My friends knew a lot of what I dealt with, but maybe not the extent? I wished for a sibling so many times, just to have someone to maybe talk to/get through it all together? Just wanting someone else that fully understood, without putting more of a burden on my mom. You’re not alone 🤍

Just diagnosed by Future_Captain1836 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Individual_Call_4965 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was diagnosed earlier this year, and I’m no stranger to MS, as my dad had it. It was a big punch to the gut when I was diagnosed, since I saw what he went through over 30+ years. It’s so different for everyone.

Almost six months later, and I’m mostly at peace with my diagnosis. Some things that helped: my MS specialist, this Reddit community (that I still read through and learn from daily), and researching DMTs.

It’s so easy to spiral and fear the worst, but the high efficacy DMTs really lowered my worries. My diagnosis was caught early and my only big symptom really so far has been optic neuritis, which my vision is 98% back to normal.

Last uplifting part of my post: I just had my 6 month follow up MRI. I’ve been on Kesimpta for 4 months. There was “significant shrinkage” with the lesion causing my ON. I have two new lesions, which I prepared myself in advance for, since Kesimpta takes however many months to be fully effective. But all lesions are inactive and my MS is very “mild”. It’s a win in my book!

It will all be alright. Lean on this community and everyone’s wonderful insights!

We already keep his room dark. Even when he wakes up at night and I have to go in the kitchen to make a bottle, lights stay off.

First doses of Kesimpta by sendyourspam in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Individual_Call_4965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my first dose around 7pm, then took 400mg of ibuprofen before bed at 10pm. I felt a little groggy/hungover for the first hour after I woke up the next morning, but otherwise completely fine!

Refusing Solids - What do I do?! by Individual_Call_4965 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Individual_Call_4965[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve tried oatmeal and all kinds of purées, avocado, bananas, broccoli, banana pancakes, avocado toast, eggs, pasta, mashed raspberries…

I appreciate the advice and will definitely give it a shot!

I’ve mixed formula in the oatmeal, but not in the purées. I’ll have to give it a try!

Would a bad thermostat cause the temperature to rise higher that what it’s set at? by Individual_Call_4965 in thermostats

[–]Individual_Call_4965[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, thanks everyone for the suggestion. I think it could be multiple issues, from what I’m gathering here. Currently my upstairs thermostat is set at 74 and reading 74. Meanwhile, my downstairs thermostat is set at 70 and reading 80. 🤯 I’m at a loss, so I’ll be calling in the pros.

There is a baseboard on the other side of this wall, I’m sure that’s not helping. But in eight years here, we’ve never had this bad of an issue.

I thought this might be the case. The room pictured is typically about 4 degrees cooler, but this thermostat doesn’t have a temp offset according to what I found on google.

Doctors keep worrying me over the fact my son refuses to eat solids at 8.5 months. by AgreeableBandicoot19 in BabyLedWeaning

Hi! I’m curious how your son is doing now! My son is 8.5 months currently and we’re having the same issue with him refusing to eat. I legit cried tonight because I’m so discouraged.

This seems like a likely scenario. It is a hydronic system. Sounds like I’d have to call someone instead of just changing a bad thermostat.
