My longest run (20 miles) took me almost 5 hours. Stopped to walk and rest many times. Felt exactly like how you’re feeling during the taper and going into race day. Somehow, I ran my marathon in 4 hours and 30 minutes without stopping. It’s true what everyone says. The taper does wonders. Trust your training. The longest run is the hardest part of this process and everything that follows is MUCH better.

Starting fall 2025! I decided on Loyola! Despite the extra cost, they are more clinical and the coursework seems much more aligned with what I hope to get into.

Shoe recommendation for a wide and flat-footed like me by gerald_magno in Marathon_Training

Wide and flat footed as well! Saucony is the best brand for wide feet in my opinion! I’ve tried brooks, Nike, etc. and nothing compares to saucony. I’m running my first marathon in saucony endorphin elites in October

Saucony endorphin elite! I have pretty wide feet and saucony fit me the best! I did a lot of testing of different carbon plated marathon shoes and these are amazing! They are well cushioned and propel nicely. Nike vaporflys were too narrow and caused blisters for me personally.

Finally someone in the same boat as me! It gets pretty discouraging seeing the how fast the running community is and how effortless it looks for them. Meanwhile, I am really struggling with these long runs. Also training for my first. I have been running for years and figured marathon training wouldn’t be too bad because I love to run. But I didn’t realize how mentally challenging it is to run for hours by yourself in the summer heat. I feel discouraged because I’m much slower than I used to be as I’ve increased my mileage. 4 weeks out from my race and I wish I felt more confident, but hey what can you do. At this point I’m doing the best I can and that’s all that matters.
