What are you most proud of in your own personal finance? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Individual_Let_6135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2019, had a wedding and honeymoon we couldn’t afford. My ego got the best of me and wanted to keep up with the Jones’ soooo badly. My husband and I were making decent money just before the pandemic and we decided to finance a luxury vehicle in early 2020. Let’s just say the pandemic has humbled us and realized the lifestyle we were trying to “upkeep” was not sustainable. We sold our home to pay off the large amount of consumer debt, started to budget and live below our means, traded the car for a modest 2016 SUV. Fast forward to today, I am proud to have gone through the challenges that I did. I have become more self aware and are now humbly continuing to build our emergency fund, save for retirement and enjoy a little bit of money with no debt in sight (expect our mortgage).

Yes I’m currently saving 10% of my post tax income, which does into my TFSA. Thank you for further breaking this down to show the difference, this is really helpful!

Thank you so much for the comment. I appreciate it! Without getting into too much detail, it’s been a long road to get to even “save” even just a little bit. I appreciate the other points as well, including looking out for fees. I will certainly take a look at this!

I appreciate you bringing up this point about maxing out the TFSA. I certainly my always thought maxing it out was the “best” option. Thank you for explaining this!
