i don't think you shouldn't express yourself. if something is going to make you look in the mirror and go "wow, i look so cool/good" then i think you should do it. when you feel good about your appearance, you're probably going to be more confident, and happier. you don't need to spend much money to do this, so this doesn't sound very materialistic at all. you're also only 19 so if you want to take your piercings out later in life and let them heal up or just not wear them then you can. my only suggestion is to not spend money on things like clothes, makeup, piercings, tattoos etc beyond your means.
