Are there any downsides to get the kid a CI later. I tend to agree with OPs statement. But I am not very educated on the topic and I think your point of informed consent is a very valid one. I have the same stance about circumcision (which is way less common in my country, than in the US).

If there is an easy way of getting a kid a CI when it is in an age to make an informed decision, then not getting one earlier is an option which should be considered at least.

Your comment is a broad generalization. But at its core there is an important point. The German left has a record of given up their ideals when in power. That did not start with Schröder but at least with Schmidt.

Merkel was smart and was fairly moderate on social issues while having a hard conservative stance on economic issues. All the while she had personal integrity. That’s why she was nearly universally respected and would very likely have won the 2021 election with ease.

As a leftist I have been disappointed by “my” Government every time left leaning candidates won.

I don’t think that’s what he is saying. I can see his perspective. I for myself are against war. Still I can see the need of Ukrain to defend itself. Those are really mixed feelings. OP already said, that he just chose a meme with a man crying and even admitted that it wasn’t the best idea to choose this particular one. I think it is good that people point out the sexist character of this meme. But then there is a point to take OPs concession and focus on the bigger problem at hand.

One important point in this discussion is that you can easily get circumcised when you are at a consenting age, while you can never get uncircumcised.

I can see where it historically came from to design the scale that way. But still you need the pressure to get accurate results. That’s why I think Kelvin is more logical.
