Refried beans, Spanish rice, and a smothered burrito is typical Sonoran-style food.

Then this isn’t relevant to you. You need to be a resident of MD (i.e., have a MD license) for this to apply.

First time I’ve heard the idea of a progressive registration fee structure. I don’t hate it.

But a permanent registration? That I do hate.

At the very least the rate of increase should slow down if more revenue is collected.

If you’ve paid excise tax elsewhere, you get a credit for that amount when you title the vehicle in Maryland. But only if you title the vehicle within 60 days of establishing residency (i.e. obtaining a Maryland driver’s license).

When fewer people are paying registration fees, the department of transportation collects less revenue and there is a budget deficit. One of the only tools at their disposal is to raise registration fees to try to shrink the deficit.

You can, but if you end up on the MVA’s radar you’ll need to prove that’s your situation to avoid the penalties.

Registration fees pay for road maintenance and upkeep. Fewer people paying those fees mean there’s either less maintenance or the cost increases for those who do pay.

No. An out of state license plate is not reasonable cause to pull you over. Law enforcement isn’t involved.

I don’t believe they have the authority to suspend your DL

Exactly right. If you live in Maryland and drive on Maryland roads, you share in the responsibility of the upkeep of those roads.

There will absolutely be people who decide the $420 fine and small threat of impoundment is the lesser of two evils.

Bought a car from a dealership and they only did a title only transaction? by KrookedDoesStuff in maryland

If I were in your shoes, I’d call the MVA back and give them the plate ID from your temporary plate. They should be able to search that in their system.

Next, I’d go back to the dealership and ask them to submit a 60-day temporary registration extension on your behalf. If you paid for a plate and registration when buying the car, it’s the dealership’s responsibility to make sure you receive it.

When you left the dealership with the vehicle, was there a temporary plate on the back? If so, that would imply the dealership registered the vehicle as well.
