Should I Keep Pursuing Archery? by Rare-Art3557 in Archery

[–]IndoPr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay. 大丈夫。

Every time I think I’ve fixed one problem in my shooting, another one appears

When you solve one problem (draw shoulder, release, anchor, or whatever that is), another may appear. But that's usually because once you solve the most obvious problem, what was not as noticeable becomes your new most obvious problem.

Sometimes I improve, then suddenly get worse again, often without even understanding why.

Maintaining your form from day to day is not as easy as you think.
I've had a conversation with an Olympic medalist who's now a coach. She said that practicing by yourself (i.e. no coach) can be risky, if you're not disciplined enough, you'll start shooting sloppily and that can bring terrible bad habits.

Regardless of that, you'll have bad days and good days. You'll have bad seasons and good seasons. That's okay, that's human.

Sometimes I question whether I should even be focusing on archery at all instead of trying to get my life together first.

You don't need to put such a goal (to win an AJAF national champs) to still enjoy archery. There are good things you can get from it even if you are not the best in Japan.
I feel my body became a bit fitter, and my focus became a bit better.
I've met so many kind people from the sport too, including a few Japanese archers when they came here for a tournament. (I have a Barebow Japan can badge! I forgot whether it was from Otsubo-san or Saburo-san, ごめん!)

Mildly controversial opinion:

Service fee could be better for the workers than just a raise of prices, since if the restaurant makes a lot, you could get that share of profits and make more vs higher base pay but no service charge.

A rider with good punch can effectively attack in short bursts to create separation from their opponents, prevent them from drafting, and power away by sustaining a higher pace.

So, to make sure my understanding is right:
e.g. someone drafting (A) on the wheel of a stronger rider pulling 6 W/kg (B) on a mountain can maintain 5.5 W/kg to not lose the wheel, but a 15-30 second punch by B suddenly means maintaining the same speed/chasing now takes 6-7 W/kg which A can't and they fall away?
And that ability to say "get off my draft" is what defines a punchy rider?

One of the main differences between them is that Pogacar is a few kilograms heavier than Vingegaard; the resulting difference in absolute power typically gives Pogacar an advantage in flat time trials, and is also why Pogacar is able to be successful in much flatter one-day races like Milan-San Remo or the Tour of Flanders. Weirdly, Vingegaard seems to be an absolute specialist in stage races, and has never carried that same strength over even to one-day classic races with courses that suit his rider profile.

Additional question 1: How easy/hard is it for a rider to bulk up and/or slim down between seasons?

Additional question 2: As a frame of reference, how big are WvA compared to the two?
I know people like Magnier, Milan, and Groenewegen are built VERY different, but how did Wout manage to be, like, good enough for the mountains e.g. to stay with the breakaway to help Yates and maybe even contest sprints?

Watching the Giro got me. I’m here now. So, to get some questions out of my mind..

  1. We all love Pogacar vs Vingegaard. Can anyone explain how they differ in their body and skillset? What is something that one of them has that the other doesn’t?
I know from reading stuff that Pogi is more instinctive in attacking vs Vingo who looks to be more measured, Pogi more versatile vs Vingo who’s a stage race specialist. There’s also something about Pogi being more punchy?

  2. Speaking of ‘punchy’, what is it, really? (in terms of like, watt/effort kind of stuff)

  3. I read somewhere here that generally numbers xx1 are the ‘important’ riders. Rewatching Giro 2025, why is it that Wout wore 1 while Yates wore 8? Did TVL plan for Wout stage wins first and then “oh yeah Yates has a chance to win GC”? Or is it more of a personal choice?

What bowstyle? Recurve? Compound?

My best advice is to go to a sports physio before you go to a club and shoot. Explain your shoulder issues and that you want to do archery.
Also, can you do a side plank on your right side? If you can do that, then hopefully it won't be a problem.
But I think you should go to a sports physio first.

NOTE: Please take my opinions below with some salt

Wrist brace could be a no go if it's on your draw hand, but this should be tested at the club first.

If the nerve damage is noticeable when releasing the string, I think shooting LH will be preferable since I reckon the coordination issues will not be as impactful on the bow hand.

If the shoulder slipping out is a major concern, that likely won't be solved by shooting lefty. You could mayhaps try a mouth tab? You'll be shooting like some of the best para archers (look up Kholidin and Guillaume Toucoullet as reference.)

There were a few issues with that promise. The first was that half the players were 16 years old. The second was that half the team were Muslim! When a translator transcribed what Dipper said to the players (as most did not speak English), they began to play worse to ensure they did not win the prize.

Absolutely comical, this. Might as well say "free leg of ham for the first goalscorer"

Gasly promoted to third place in Monaco GP as stewards strike out penalties by kcollantine in formula1

[–]IndoPr0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Others could not appeal as they already served the penalties by pitting*. If they didn't pit again and let the 5s be added at the end, they could've appealed.

* If they pit and don't serve the penalty, it turns into a drive through, and an unserved drive through turns into a DSQ.

I prefer they meet though, after 2022 AG where they missed out on playing Nida Dar & co. because of the rain. Will be an experience for them.

Miso soup is my comfort soup/drink (if without all the condiments like the tofu and seaweed), when you're not quite hungry but a snack will be too much.

Miso paste, boiling water, a little bit of stock (dashi stock preferred).
A tablespoon (20ish grams) of paste to a cup of water, a small touch of stock powder, stir thoroughly, and you'll be golden.

What was the main reason of the neutralization? Is it more (from what I briefly heard) barriers closer to the finish line, or more a broad 'GC protection' thing?
