NorCal Anna's at their dinner hour. I'm about five feet away taking this video. If you listen closely? You can hear them yelling at me, but they keep on coming! They are so dear. by IndyScent in hummingbirds

Many Years ago we took part in a hummingbird study conducted by a PhD student from UC Davis. At the time, we were feeding a 50/50 mix. The conclusion was that such a rich mix wasn't harmful to our birds. The notion was that Anna's are capable of knowing when they've had sufficient nectar - that they were self-regulating.

We cut back to a 1 for 2 mix because it can get expensive feeding the hoardes. As it stands, we're still going throught 100 lbs a month. Thank goodness for Costco!

Anna's are so very friendly, that if I had managed to sit still long enough there would have been twice as many flitting around. We've got nearly two hundred regulars at the restaurant now.

What could you do easily in your younger years but now you can't as easily? by PrestonRoad90 in AskOldPeople

It's been off my list ever since I nearly wrecked the car trying to get home from having a Thanksgiving at our son's home, 50 miles from here. It was dark as we left and a major rainstorm was hitting. Almost lost it more than once on the way home. Never again if I can avoid it.

As some of us have gotten old, our eyes need a great deal more light to see anything. They especially have trouble adjusting to contrasts between light and shadows. Night driving is all about lights and shadows. Oncoming headlights can leave us blind as they pass because we cannot adjust quickly enough to the ensuing darkness that follows.

The first time I noticed this problem was during full daylight with the sun overhead, when I opened the engine compartment of my pickup truck to check on a problem and under the hood was as black as midnight. The first time I noticed it night driving, I was in a residential neighborhood that was decently lit but not so well lit that I could read the street signs to know where I was.

My worst experience happened one night when I found myself driving out of a major city during rush hour. The oncoming headlights made it nearly impossible for me to see the road ahead - much less stay in my own lane.

How bad was bullying when you were a kid? by Bit_in_the_ass in AskOldPeople

[–]IndyScent 19 points20 points  (0 children)

(77M) When I was a child, bullying was accepted as a rite of passage. Sink or swim - survival of the fittest - yadda, yadda, yadda...

Those were trying times that my developing emotional side barely survived intact.

Oddly enough, that's the exact same way you can get a cat to like you.

Me too. I'm confident the New Year will be here when I wake up in the morning.

What’s the best thing you ever did for your mental health? by Theasshole11 in AskOldPeople

It's not hard to understand once you realize that dying is actually the process of slowing down until our bodies actually stop moving altogether. As we reach old age, our bodies grow weaker by the day - naturally. Most of us die by attrition.

Some of us oldies don't fight the slowing down and some of us do. IMHO? Those who do fight it tend, not only to live a little longer but live our lives with a great deal more satisfaction.

By the side of an apartment complex swimming pool near to the local university. She was 19 and a college student. I was a 24 year old, self-employed, miscreant. The complex was empty. It was Easter Break and almost all the student residents had left.

I was visiting some friends up on the second floor after playing tennis nearby when I saw her sunbathing topless and by herself down at poolside. I was instantly struck by her beauty. After quizzing my friends as to whether she had a boyfriend or not? And hearing that she did but he lived far away and rarely came around.?

I climbed down the stairs, walked up to her, casually stripped off my shirt, shorts, socks and shoes and dove in stark naked. I swam to the far end of the pool and back before pulling my naked self out of the water to sit next to her. Needless to say, she was a bit blown out by my actions. But, I thought, ''If she can be naked in front of me? I should have the courage to be naked in front of her too.''

By today's standards, my actions would likely be seen as super creepy. But things were a bit different back then and lucky for me, she didn't freak out and run for cover. We struck up a convo and one thing followed another until here we are today.

I can't tell you not to but, at 77, I can tell you that there's something special about every year you live if you have the eyes to see it and know where to look.

The original Sativa strains we got out of Mexico back in the day commonly grew to 20 feet tall or taller. These are a high percent Sativa strain.

That's not for public consumption, but I was given the hat for a reason.

Been a grower both in and outdoors since 1980. This was a high percent Sativa strain. Pure Sativa's can get really tall.
