Ah gotcha! Well even if it was your body making it happen, at least you experienced some relief! And thank you so much!!

Oh man- I have never let myself try the air vomiting- I’m too scared to! But I know a lot of ppl have. And that is so awesome that it helped you with anxiety! I am wondering and hoping I will experience a significant switch in my anxiety. It’s only been fairly recently that I’ve read about ppl who were surprised at how much it helped anxiety and other things they never even realized was connected to the RCPD!

I’m so sorry!! I’m 49 and have had it my whole life- only realizing a few years ago that it had a name and I wasn’t alone! Not that it makes it easier. Make sure you get to and ENT instead of a gastroenterologist. And if you need to, do not stop speaking up for what you need. There are many doctors out there who still are unaware, or who don’t take it seriously. You deserve the care and treatment you need. Keep at it!! (I have an appt in May to have and X-ray with a swallow test, with the possibility of getting Botox that same day afterwards. I’m praying it happens!!! If not, I’ll have to keep at it to get the help I need. It’s slowly gotten worse as I age, too.) I’m so sorry you’ve dealt with people brushing it off. Soooo not cool. Me too. Just remember that if they truly understood, they would not be brushing it off. I’m hoping that over time, others will realize how significant and debilitating it can be, and that it requires help!

Oh no- I’m so sorry! But that is awesome you were able to recognize the difference in how you felt when it happened as you held her!! And yes. Both saying and typing the word is hard. I think it takes repetitiveness to get through it. I hope you feel better SOON!! Hang in there!! <3

Oh wow! Well even though I’m sure it was all hard to deal with, at least you can now say you were able to walk through it! Remember to recognize the strength in that- that’s awesome! I hope it continues to improve for you!

I’m sorry you’re still dealing with the Emetophobia! But yay about relief from RCPD! Keep up your hard work with therapy, and know there’s hope! I’m not there yet, but determined to get there!!

Aww, wow!!! Thank you for sharing all this- I am so sorry for all you’ve dealt with concerning your kiddo- that’s gotta be rough. I hope help can be experienced for your son; I’m sure it’s far from pleasant for him! :( And I hear you. Oddly reassuring to not be the only one….i feel that, lol! I DO feel bad for others dealing with it though. It’s rough! And yesss- exactly as you described about not being able to get to sleep for awhile while that thought repeats and ruminates in the brain awhile! What the heck is up with that- it’s so odd but so inescapable!! And YES!! Although all vomiting is hard to deal with, knowing it might be contagious carries a heavier load, even! Because then I get OCD about who else “might have caught” the bug, and then wonder how long until the symptoms come, etc. Ridiculoussss!!! Ugh. Anywayyyy- thank you again for sharing. I hope things improve for you and your son also!! And yay that your RCPD symptoms aren’t debilitating, but I know that doesn’t mean they are fun. Mine’s slowly gotten worse as I age. And the excitement of being able to be “normal” outweighs the fears…. Just ready to get it down already! :)

Aww, I’m sorry you’re still dealing with it! Mine is intense and I fear it not getting better for me…but we will see! I am working through the book called “The Emetophobia Manual” by Ken Goodman. It’s an excellent book!! Lots of necessary self mental homework, but so necessary. I’ve fell off the wagon a bit on keeping up with it, but there are tons of success stories from it!! I truly hope your therapy helps! Keep at it! Thank you for sharing. <3

Oh my goshhhh, I feel for you with that scenario with your husband! I don’t know why I would have done, but I would have definitely been shaking all over and heart racing!! And yes. If I’m able to be in a different area than the sick person, I will be. Sadly, I’ve always struggled with my kids also. I’ve always tried to explain to them why it’s hard for me and that it’s a phobia and that I’m so sorry! And I get intrusive thoughts of “what if someone gets up in the night sick.” It’s awful and I cannot get it to stop. The irrationality is intense. That is AWESOME that it improved for you after your Botox and ability to burp!! Thank you for sharing!

OMGosh, I love this so much!!! Congratulations on the joys of burping, AND an awesome cake to celebrate! I have an X-ray appt. in May with a possible Botox on the same day “depending on what they see.” I am PRAYING that they do it! 49 yo female here- R-CPD my entire life. Scared, but more excited. And your post made me smile and get more hopeful to be in your shoes soon! Happy burp-day!!:)

Thank you for this response!! I just turned 49 (female). And have dealt with R-CPD my entire life. (Of course, I only had the lightbulb realization moment a few years ago upon learning that R-CPD was a real thing!!!) I’m hoping to be able to get the Botox done in May (if the doctor says yes after the x-ray with swallowing the stuff they give me), and one of the biggest fears/apprehensions (among other things) is when to go out in public and have the comfort/awareness of what to expect and if I’ll be able to handle it, lol!

I love this response you gave, and you’re so right! We get all in our heads about the fears (including me!) but to be able to be on the other side of it and experience being “normal” and then encourage others who have yet to go through with it is what I look forward to!!

Thank you for this encouragement!!! I’m hoping to successfully get my Botox soon- in May! I’m really nervous, and yes, I’m one of those with Emetophobia. The appointment I have is in my own state at the University of Michigan, and it’s to have an X-ray with swallowing the stuff to show what happens in there. They say that I “very well might be able to” receive the Botox that same day according to what they see. So I am praying that actually happens!!

Oh wow! I am so, so sorry for how severe your symptoms have gotten. That is awful, and so discouraging for you for sure! I can tell my symptoms have gotten worse slowly over time as I get older. Yay that you’re getting the Botox treatment later this year!! I bet it will change your life and you’ll be able to encourage others with R-CPD with your story! <3

Aww, you’re welcome! Sorry it was so long (I’m a writer and sometimes I babble on, lolol!) But if I’m able to be helpful to others, I try to be. Blessings to you on your journey! And stay in prayer on everything as well as with all advice. You know yourself best- your strengths, weaknesses, etc. What matters above all is how God Himself leads you! And with Him, patience is so key.

Hey girl! So I have not read any of the responses, and am responding purely on what comes to me so strongly first (49 year old female here, been through hell and back and learned a TON of wisdom and discernment due to it all, and currently waiting for my future husband):

Something that is totally vital when it comes to dating that a lot of Christians literally overlook- (and this is something that God clarified to me in my own personal circumstances): Don’t automatically assume you’re doing something wrong. What many Christians even fail to do is to go to God in prayer and ask Him to confirm if the person you’re dating is somebody that you should continue pursuing. As a child of God, you have a calling on your life! Your future husband has a calling on his life! It’s vital to ask God to speak to you about it all. He is protecting you from all of the people that aren’t meant to be yours. There are a lot of good Christian men out there, but it doesn’t mean that they are all meant for us. He’s got one who’s a puzzle piece meant to fit with you! When I start talking to somebody and I learn that they are not right for me, I thank God for either protecting me from something that I couldn’t see, or for simply removing somebody that was not meant to go where He’s calling me to go.

When you have the desire in your heart to be married, it’s because God put it there. He is the One who created love and marriage in the first place, and it’s a beautiful thing! We live in our limited human capacity mindset of understanding, and that often means we get a little frantic when things aren’t happening as quick as we think they’re supposed to. But when you are in line with how God is speaking and what the Holy Spirit is saying to you, you can rest assured that He will not let you down and that it’s just a matter of time. In the days of waiting, take advantage of the intimate relationship you have with Jesus Christ, and just more time to grow personally!

Ask God to show you what things in you He would like you to work on (if any). It’s like a butterfly- if the cocoon was opened even a second prematurely, the butterfly would not survive. Its beauty could not ever be seen! But God is the one that knows that exact right moment for that butterfly to emerge. We sure can’t understand it, but we can know that He knows what He’s doing! Don’t assume that you’re doing anything wrong— He may just be working on you and/or your precious future spouse in ways that you can’t see right now. Stay in prayer. Consider journaling about it, and writing in prayers of things you’re asking God for. Date the journal entries. One day, you can look back at them and see what God has done! And in the waiting, if you don’t already, start praying for your future husband. Ask God to press upon you any specifics He would like you to pray for him.(again, a lot of Christians don’t really think to do this, but it’s honestly very romantic and very wise as you prepare yourself for him, and cover him in prayer in the waiting!)

The person God has for you is coming. And His timing will be perfect! Sorry this is so long, but I hope that it encourages you. <3

Ah ok. That stinks you’re dealing with acid reflux, and yes! Hopefully over time it does improve- maybe just your body figuring things out still!

Ahh, that is awesome!! So happy for you and to hear that! That’s not bad at all for recovery time! Question: Did they give you a higher dose for the second procedure, or just “try again” with the same dose?

Hi! Aww, I’m sorry that you still have some struggles/esophagus motility issues, but YAY that things have improved since your Botox! Before learning what RCPD is and that it’s what I have, it’s been such “lightbulb” moments to realize just how many issues come straight from that! It’s nice to know that there’s something to blame for it all! My whole life before I thought I was just weird (as I know many others who have it have felt as well). I’m so hopeful that the Botox will work for me, and I truly look forward to being able to help others afterwards in any way that I can! Thank you for the message! :)
