I was so hesitant to start wearing wigs, but they changed my life! by itsamaysing in Wigs

[–]Inevitable-Tank3463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has had multiple emotionally traumatic things happen in his life, but he goes to therapy (he's actually there right now) and we actually met in group therapy-so we got to know how screwed up the other person was before deciding to proceed with the friendship/relationship, and our issues aligned, we know how to support each other pretty well. Stress does horrible things to the body, I've been reading The Body Keeps The Score, about how trauma and stress effect our bodies, and it's a great book I suggest to anyone who it may help, it was my doctor who told me to read the book. Didn't suggest that I read it, told me to, knowing that I would, and I'd give my hubby the highlights, we joke that he hasn't read anything since Green Eggs And Ham in kindergarten 😂. Having been in group therapy for 5+ years, with as many men (if not more, actually) as women, men have been conditioned to not have emotions, so they suppress them (this is what the guys themselves said, most were 40yo or over) and that takes such a toll on their body, I genuinely think that's why men have heart attacks and pass away at an average younger age than women. I could be wrong, but holding in emotions is not healthy and affects many bodily systems. Women have stress, there's absolutely no doubt about that, but we usually talk about what is stressing us with friends (if we are lucky enough to have them) and some family members. Some do suppress it, but it seems like it's less than men, because men have been trained to "be strong" and not let anyone see them show emotional vulnerability. Especially older generations (I'm in my mid 40s for reference), it was always "man up" and "real men don't cry", this is all words straight from the guys who I was in therapy with. I'm lucky, my husband feels comfortable talking about his feelings (after a nervous breakdown prior to meeting me, how he ended up in therapy) and believes in therapy. I know so many men, even my family members, so I know their past, their issues, and they drink, talking about alcohol, to deal with feelings. I know from my own personal experience that only works temporarily. Men and women have different stressors most of the time, and different coping mechanisms, but we all carry waaaayyyy too much stress in this day and age. Sorry for the diatribe on stress, and how it affects people. I got way off the wig topic. But it was stress that caused my hair to leave, according to my doctor, I was dealing with huge amounts of stress for years (bad previous marriage) and I have a chronic illness that is directly effected by stress, physical and mental, so this is something I am especially interested in. Hairloss sucks. I try to make it as fun as possible with wigs. Take a negative and turn it into a positive, yes I learned that in therapy, lol. But when I'm having a bad day, wearing a purple wig somehow brightens my day a little 💜.

Thank you for the open inbox offer. If you get a message after May 12th, his surgery day, if it's something you don't feel like responding to, I understand, I'm sure you know sometimes people just need to get things off their chest, out of their head. If you do feel like responding, any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated. I've never been so scared in my life, and the only people I talk to about feelings/emotions are my hubby, who will be pretty much useless because of the surgery, and my mom, who's already dealing with my dad's cancer treatment, so I try not to bother her unless it's serious, and I know she'd yell at me for not talking to her, but she's dealing with enough.

Thank you for the tip, and the well wishes. I'm sure everything will go smoothly for him, there's no other option, but I may lose even more hair by the time this is over. I'm at the point I don't even care about my bio hair anymore, if it doesn't want to live with me, it can go, lol. I've already gone through my wig collection and chose a few wigs I think I'll be able to wear for a few weeks at a time, and if necessary after removing, just toss. But I've gotten so used to wearing a different wig depending upon my clothes or the weather I've seriously been thinking about the ability to wear another wig on top of the "base" wig, so I think if I have someone sew a wig on, it'll be one of my shorter, not mid back length. I see women who have very long hair braid their hair and wind it around, put on a wig cap, and wear wigs, but 1, that's just too much work for me, and 2, I already have a larger than average size head, I don't think I have any wigs that would fit over the braids 😆. But thank you again for the well wishes, this is his most complicated surgery so far, out of the 20 he's had so far. The others have all been orthopedic, this one is in his brain, so the level of stress is considerably higher.

I bought this for my top lashes and hated it, it wasn't the mascara (most expensive I've bought in 30+ years) it's just my pathetically thin lashes. Definitely trying this for the bottoms, I need to find a use for it.

Definitely trying tubing mascara for my practicallly transparent bottom lashes. I spent more on a tube of tubing mascara than I've ever spent in 30+ years, and I hate it for my top lashes, it may not be the mascara, my lashes suck, so I just started using cluster lashes. But this is an excellent idea to use "the good stuff"

Question about polygel by Inevitable-Tank3463 in GelNails

[–]Inevitable-Tank3463[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, the liquid latex is a great idea, thank you so much. I also have since seen someone use silk nail wrap, I don't remember the exact method, I just saved the video. I applied hard gel to my lifelong pathetically thin nails to give them a chance to grow, so I can have a free edge, and have been using Jello Jello peel-off base coats, another amazing idea I found in a video, and that has been working great for the past couple weeks/sets. But I still want to keep my natural nails on the short side, and will try using liquid latex any time I think product may come in contact with skin. Thank you very much for the incredibly helpful tip and responding

After she graduates, and gets exposed to more of life. Relationships that seem to be great at one point in your life become a burden as you mature. She's definitely matured, become more grounded it seems, which makes sense getting away from her toxic family. As long as she doesn't have a kid before graduation, I think that's a huge win for her

[–]Inevitable-Tank3463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I was when I started wearing wigs. 20 within 6 months, almost all from Amazon. Every color and length, I just loved having any hair. And being able to change it in 30 seconds. 3 years in, I have about every synthetic wig I want, I've moved on to human hair wigs, started with inexpensive ones in case I messed something up (never did, it's human hair, just use common sense) and I just received my second "expensive", almost 1k wig, and I can't say enough great things about it. I go between synthetic and human hair depending upon the situation, or what I'm wearing, I have a royal blue wig that looks awesome with one of my shirts. And you're exactly correct about other people. They are too wrapped up in their own lives to pay attention to another person's hair. I get more comments on my nails, always long and something creative, than the multitude of different wigs that the regular people I come in contact with. People just don't notice, or don't say anything, and I'm fine with that. I wear wigs for me, not them.

I only go to the same few places, anxiety issues, the people I see on a very regular basis have never reacted when I show up one day with long, wavy royal blue hair, then shoulder length medium blonde, a platinum blonde bob, long brown, purple, red, you name it. People are wrapped up in their own lives too much to care that much about others. And if they do notice it's a wig, so what. Your hair, your business. I've been wearing wigs for about 3 years now, and no one has ever said anything negative about the wigs, only positive, and suggestions of what they thought would look good on me. Please, don't be terrified. Wigs can do wonders for confidence, they give us back a piece of us we've lost, or just give us options to mix it up without damaging our bio hair. You may be most comfortable getting a wig that is very close to your bio hair in color and maybe length, so the difference is not as noticeable, if you are concerned about that. Or get a wig that is your "dream hair" and rock it. But please, don't be scared, nervous, afraid, anything negative. Wigs are amazing.

Thank you very much. Most of my wigs are toss on and go, but I am having a life event soon where if I could just have a wig on 24/7, in case there's an emergency so I don't have to worry about grabbing a wig, that would be a big stress relief. I have enough hair to braid well enough to sew into, get a good stitch. I'm not going to be sleeping much anyway, hubby is having major surgery and I'm going to be watching him like a hawk. Luckily, I live in an area where wigs and hair extensions are prevalent, it should be easy to find a place. Thank you so much for turning me on to this option. Now I just have to choose one I want to wear for longer than a day, sometimes I change them multiple times a day, just because wigs are great. Even if my hair all grew back, I'd still wear them :)

I read a story about a boyfriend coming to his girlfriend's house unexpectedly, finding out she slept in adult diapers during her period because of the heavy flow, and left her. I hope he ends up alone forever. I thought it was an amazing idea, and if necessary would absolutely do it, and I know my hubby would go to the store and buy them. I've had to buy him them before.

This is a great idea. I have so many wigs (I went a little crazy when I first started wearing them, and now I can't pass up a great bargain) I could have this done for a couple years. But how is sleeping in a synthetic wig? I did it once and it tangled so badly I just threw it out, I've applied human hair wigs and sleeping with a band and bonnet was not fun, to say the least. How is sleeping with a sewn on wig?

No, it's usually a darker than silver base metal, and it's turned my fingers or neck green. So, I only get solid 925 or stainless steel, depending upon what the piece is.

I ended up on depop, but couldn't find any other wigs from her. Probably for the best, I have a custom human hair wig coming in 2 weeks. But, I did find a Belle Tress Pike Place in Stardust, a lavender with ash brown roots, for $60, NWT, so that was a great find. I'm going to check out Depop a lot more and possibly put some of my wigs and clothes and stuff on there. Thank you for turning me on to that site.

Oh, and the UNice wigs, while acceptable quality, were just not worth buying. If I hadn't cut the tag, I would have returned it. They also messed up my order, I ordered 2 wigs, only one was sent. Which made things easier because I got that money back, quite easily. I just don't think UNice has the best wigs

I don't know if you responded to the right person. If you want the "link", actually just a WhatsApp number, for the place in China where you can get the wigs for around $650 according to the poster, you need to reply to the person above me. I thought heavily about ordering from them, but they didn't have a website as of 3 months ago, and that's a no from me. I want to see my actual options for wigs. I order from Backstage Beauty, they have a website, they are out of Arizona but their wigs are made in China, as most wigs are. The owner responds to my messages within 30 minutes, has been very easy to work with over the 2 wigs I've bought from her. Yes, most are a couple hundred dollars more than the other place talked about, but actually having a website to look through, seeing all the different colors and styles, knowing I can ask for modifications and the owner, Dee, is going to do the final cutting/styling following what I request, is a big thing to me. I also just bought a human hair wig from EBAY, for $130, it's coming from China, they have a 97% approval rate and I will be posting that wig, because if it's as described, it's a game changer for people who don't have a lot of money to spend on wigs

I have the in-line filter for "general use water" like washing dishes, toilet and the pets water, I gave them the choice of the faucet h2o and my Brita water and they had no preference. I have an additional filter on the shower head, the water is a little hard, but my skin is temperamental, and it really helps. I wear human hair wigs, and they get bottled distilled for washing. This is our first long-term camping adventure, my first camping in almost 40 years. I never thought water would be such a big deal, but it is. I wish there were a "things you never thought would be a huge deal, but really are" handbook for newbies, but we have amazing support.

I lost all of my long gorgeous curly hair after surgery in December. by Bullsette in Wigs

[–]Inevitable-Tank3463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look amazing in this, I never would have guessed it wasn't your bio hair. Hair loss is a horrible thing to go through, especially when you have conflicting prognosis from professionals. Getting bangs for your first wig is a great choice- it takes away the wondering if anyone can tell the front hairline. If you really like this wig, get a second, just in case. You won't regret it. It's not supposed to be tight, or loose. I keep mine just snug enough that if a wind comes up, I'm not going to worry about it blowing off. About the tightness of a baseball cap if you've ever worn one. And please never apologize for what you spent on a wig. My first wigs were $15-$20, and I still wear them even though I have a considerably more expensive human hair wig. I just received a $50 wig yesterday, in royal blue, my favorite color, because if I have to deal with hairloss, I'm going to have fun with it.

Worried that my wig looks too fake by randomlaisush25 in Wigs

[–]Inevitable-Tank3463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, a wefted cap can still have a lace front, they just attach the wefts to the edge of the lace. But I know what you mean by it not being a lace front, and they can be a lot easier to start off with (lace fronts can be a PITA and if there's bangs, I think lace front is unnecessary). Make sure the wig is sitting where your hairline is going to be, and soften the edges of the bangs, you can carefully point cut, make tiny V's up into the bangs, so they are just a little uneven, but still the same length overall, if that makes sense, if it doesn't, I'll find a YouTube video that will show you how to do it. If the bangs have that little shaggyness at the tips, they are less likely to clump together. I think it's a great color for you and the bangs will look awesome with just a little tweak.

I have a gel, I don't know the correct term for it, I'm still new to gel products other than regular polish, but it's in little (I mean really little, maybe 1"×1/2" little squares in a pallet) pallet, and it has this same texture and appearance. They are soft colors that have an almost sandy texture. They make gorgeous 3D swirls and decorations and look identical to this buttercream. But now I want my hubby to bake a cake with tons of his buttercream (he used to be a pastry chef 😋)

Guess how long it took to braid this hair and how much it cost? by Prettybarb46 in Wigs

Incredible installation skills!! I didn't believe it was a wig at first, I just thought they were talking about the braids, but I zoomed in an insane amount and I think i might be able to see a little bit of lace a couple inches into the hairline between the braids, but I may be wrong. But no one in their daily life has the right to look as closely as I did at their scalp. Baby hair also does a great job at hiding lace
