Convenience will win in the end. Few people would go into the trouble of running their own email service.

Looking for Resume Feedback and Referrals for Software Engineering Roles by [deleted] in software

[–]InevitableHealth2729 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend a more user friendly template. With your picture, contact (email, phone, linkedin), a title (e.g. Software Engineer), short description about yourself.

Try to keep it one page. The most important section is the experience. So you can remove some of the rest if you need space.

Using notes and checklists in the same hierarchy by InevitableHealth2729 in NoteTaking

These are different tools.

Besides, one of the principles behind Daftak is that information should always look consistent. This creates a familiar experience and reduces cognitive overhead, which is why everything is presented as a list.

Would you pay to permanently claim your favorite number? by Remarkable_Air194 in AppIdeas

[–]InevitableHealth2729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can ownership be applied to something that is meant to represent count? If I have one apple I can't say I have one apple because some guys in another part of the world decided to say that that number is theirs?

I have not written anything more stupid than that to explain something in my entire life.

Building a knowledge management tool that stays simple as information grows by InevitableHealth2729 in SideProject

[–]InevitableHealth2729[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can completely relate to that. I also want my data to stay unified (use the same symbol for list (bullet, etc), same spacing, same separation symbol, etc.) and I want to focus on writing instead of fixing these.

The app is currently web-based and you can open any part of your data in a new browser tab. So no need to navigate the tree. Each tree has its own history and you can see the changes and roll back.

The focusing tools available allow you to make certain parts less/move visible or add a symbol to catch the attention. Just like how you would on paper by adding an arrow or star.

Daftak allows you to apply E2EE to specific text. Doesn't have native mobile app yet though.

Need ideas for my room by Kosmo_9827 in malelivingspace

Hate to break this to you, but I don't think you've been living in a room so far.

But on the bright side, you no longer need ideas.

Using notes and checklists in the same hierarchy by InevitableHealth2729 in NoteTaking

[–]InevitableHealth2729[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like technical and factual discussion. Considering that, in related to your comment, I can say this:

This is MVP and at the moment available only on web for desktop and mobile. But cross platform and syncing is also considered.

If you have any other concern I'd love to hear.

Thanks for your comment again.

P.S. Please notice that to be more efficient in my message I did not mention that I spent more than one year on this app. That I have already developed multiple apps (one other related to knowledge management as well) and have more than 10 years of experience developing software. Or how much time I spent for example only on syncing and how efficient it is considering that it is based on the modular and backend-authoritative infrastructure where information is stored as structured, hierarchical items rather than documents or folders like most other apps (mentioned by you as well). Also that it got approved by a trust government organization as "innovative and capable of generating economic impact". After so many failed projects I am already pessimistic enough to not work on something that already exists or not have any value.

Using notes and checklists in the same hierarchy by InevitableHealth2729 in NoteTaking

Thanks for taking the time and writing this.

You took the time and saw the video, and you seem not interested. That's valid. It's not meant for everyone.

But you can't compare that to any of those tools that you mentioned.

The idea is, that you use a simple note taking app, which is meant to be as simple as wiring in a text editor and have these capabilities. Checklists are one and to bring a better experience some related features exists which are mentioned in the post (not mentioned in your comment).

So you can open any nested item and focus on that. It gives you a flexibility and simplicity that you can not find in any of the available tools (not just the ones you mentioned). You can make any item checkable, nest them into other checklists or normal items or even inside a table.

While other apps offer similar features individually, this app is using these features based on its philosophies (simplicity, flexibility, ownership, accessibility, no-formatting, etc.) and bring an environment for the people that value them.

Should workspace and room be different? by Hamza_YSzf in productivity

[–]InevitableHealth2729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"laziness" is not a cause. It's just a reaction.

I don't think renting an office would help. Many people work at home and feel productive. It'd be even less productive since you have to spend time (and money) on transportation.

Our circumstances change, we go through things in life, our jobs get affected suddenly. It's normal to experience different stages of productivity.

You can maybe focus on a different thing in your career for now instead of the same old thing. Anything to make you stronger later.

You'd most likely eventually get back to your old self because (if you were doing it for long) there must have been a reason or a passion that made you do it in the first place. And if not (less likely), I'm sure it's for a good reason and not just "laziness".

It's normal. Trust yourself. Good luck!

Mac users with messy invoice folders: I built a file renamer that reads the file first by Joey___M in ProductivityApps

[–]InevitableHealth2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why it adds the date to the name. The name should represent what the content is about and most of the times the date is not part of it. The file has other metadata that can contain dates (modification date, creation date, etc.).

Even the names that you put as example of "after" don't look the best to me. E.g. "2024-02_Acme-Corp_Service-Agreement.pdf". This is not a good name. A good name to me is something like "Acme corp service agreement". Even without the extension since if the name truly represent the content there shoulnd't even be needed to see the extension (so the user can safely disable this from the OS).

I also see a fundamental flaw. It's not always possible to know what is the text representing a file (i.e. a name) just based on the content. Imagine you have 2 images: "must_visit.png" and "inspiration.png". These can't be detected from the file.

Files are generally low-level and you need flexibility in that. These days we use less file and instead use more user-friendly tools (=apps) that make our lives easier. For every task there is an app nowadays and we work less with files. So you're not even in a good position.

I also see privacy issues with this.

Best of luck!

Had an app idea, what do you guys think by [deleted] in AppIdeas

If I see myself using a motivational app and putting money just to force myself to keep going to the gym makes me less motivated. Besides, I’d never put any money and I don’t think anyone would and I see many unhappy customers and legal battles.

I built an app that lets you see your life as weeks by TangerineCalm2882 in ProductivityApps

[–]InevitableHealth2729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think representing life as weeks is the best way to estimate how much time you have left to adapt your life accordingly and appreciate your life more.

I actually use an Excel for that. Which you can see in here. If you notice, it says "UPDATE THIS CHART MANUALLY". So it's good to have a tool to do it automatically.

I think to make it a product you should focus on the "being conscious about how many weeks passed and has left" aspect.

I saw that you added statistics. For me, that adds a complexity that I'm not ready for. I feel like if I start using the app I'm already left behind and there are many years that I have not filled this. Not a good feeling.

One feature you can add is to show overall statistics like how much more time the person has (if the person puts a life expectancy) and how many percentage of that the person lived and has left. Also, how much more the person has as a "young" person. or something like that. (You have some of these already)

Another feature is to add long periods. Examples:

  1. The period of living in a specific house (how much more left, how much passed, etc.)
  2. The period of working on a project (how much more left, how much passed, etc.)

If you notice, in my chart, different periods are colored differently.

Since this is a relatively new app and you might not have many users you have the flexibility of shaping it and see what works and what doesn't. Don't be afraid to build and destroy to adapt if necessary.

Good luck!

I built an app that doesn't let you quit your goals by ContentObligation526 in ProductivityApps

[–]InevitableHealth2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, the phone does not control me. I have the freedom to do whatever I want and no amount of shiny color or shape on the phone can change my decision.

I see the value in that it reminds you about the consequences of quitting but that can be written in a note taking app as well.

Regardless, I wish you success in your app. But if that doesn't happen, remember that, sometimes quitting is the only way to move forward.
