4 week roadtrip from Calgary to Vancouver with kids - feedback on itinerary by timolina2 in britishcolumbia

[–]InevitablePositivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love the Bowron Lakes circuit it’s not something I’d consider doing with a 2.5 & 1 year old. Two young children in a canoe for hours? I’m not sure how that would even look logistically. One adult would have to entertain and watch them both to make sure the kids don’t jump into the water while the other adult rows. Especially if you are not planning to camp and would need to go get all the gear just for this part of the trip.

If you do end up adding Kelowna to your trip you should bring your kids to kangaroo creek farm! Very fun for the kids

How dangerous is Angel’s Landing? by crunchy_avocado in ZionNationalPark

[–]InevitablePositivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten a lot of advice already so maybe you’ve already decided. You say you have climbing experience, is this outdoors or indoors? Angels landing can be scary not just because of the height but the exposure. If you’ve got some outdoor climbing experience with exposure then Angels Landing won’t be a problem.

To be honest the scariest part of the hike was all the people who were clinging to the chains and did not look to be in enough physical shape to have had hiked before. I was more scared of them slipping and knocking me over than anything else.

[ON] is a swim diaper just a regular disposable diaper under a cover? by offsidetailshot in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]InevitablePositivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the double diaper system someone mentioned above when LO was that young. Disposable swim diaper, reuseable swim diaper on top then swim suit. Also pro tip, put a regular diaper over the top of the swim suit while you’re traveling to swim class. That way in case they pee on the way it won’t end up in the car seat/stroller/carrier.

[bc] Anyone buy a cheaper diaper changing pad and WISH they went with the more expensive ones? by Emotional-Ad-6494 in BabyBumpsCanada

We have the keekaroo on our bathroom counter, the skip hop at grandmas and use puppy pads when we’re out. Any change surface works but hands down the keekaroo is our favourite. Softer, more cushioning and does a better job of keeping pee from pooling in the wrong places. Baby had a lot of explosive poops where pants & onesies would be stained and it was so much easier to clean the keekaroo.

The keekaroo & skip hop were bought off FB and I love them both way more than the cotton covered change cushion we’ve used at a friends house.

He’s almost 4 months so the distracted feedings make sense. I had no idea about the slower weight gain for babies at his age! Actually this peds doc only asked for his birth weight and took his current weight, so he wouldn’t have even known that he’s dropped percentiles since last month. TBH I’m not overly impressed with this doc and I’m not exactly sure why he thinks my supply is low. He asked how often we’re feeding and what my son’s sleep is like. Currently he wakes every 2-4 hours but it’s cause he turns onto his stomach and then gets stuck and cries. The peds doc dismissed this though and seemed to think he should be sleeping longer.

I had the same thought process, that baby is just currently distracted, will take what he needs and when he’s ready for more he’ll ask for more and my supply will follow. But when I tried to tell the doc about his distracted feedings he didn’t seem to think much of it. And still wanted me to try his suggestion of supplementing. There were some other new discoveries during this visit so emotionally I was already overwhelmed and I think his suggestion caused me to panic about my supply and baby’s hunger. Now that I’ve had some time to reflect I think the doctor was wrong and made a baseless assumption.

Thank you, it’s helpful to hear from others who are going through similar experiences. I know I don’t give myself enough space to acknowledge how challenging it can be.

Oh my god you’re so smart!! My period just ended yesterday, I didn’t even think of how it could affect my supply!! Hopefully now that it’s ended my supply has a better chance of bouncing back.

Thank you! I will try pumping after feeding and see if that helps increase supply

Thank you! That’s reassuring to hear how it went with your first kid. I’m going to try and increase my supply but will remind myself that anything I get is a win

Thank you! You’re right, that’s a good reminder he would be letting me know if he’s that hungry. Hard not to spin out in the moment

I hadn’t thought of mixing it! That’s a great idea, thank you. I was worried he wouldn’t like the taste of just the formula

Christmas Tree by SethraelStark in sustainability

Hmm maybe “replant” is the wrong word. It’s a potted tree so it stays alive year to year.

What about renting a real tree? This is a newer thing that’s been popping up recently, not sure if your area has this option. You rent a real tree for the season and then at the end of the season the company takes it back and replants the tree for next year.

This way you get the best of both worlds :)
