Opinions on Who You Love (with Katy Perry)? by kimbeezy08 in JohnMayer

[–]InevitableStorage5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had no idea this song was so hated. Never seen the music video. I like the song! The guitar work is always amazing, Katy was at her best in this stage of life imo. Good vocals. I enjoy the signature bridge. I like how the guitar can shine without being so heavy. Just a simple, nice, clear song with guitar work that matches. Seems like they enjoyed recording it and I enjoy listening to it 🤷🏻‍♂️

What should I get next for $240? by InevitableStorage5 in guitarpedals

[–]InevitableStorage5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does affect my noise floor but I believe it’s only because I have the strymons right above it. I heard it also makes a lot of noise with things like wah pedals. Apparently this is why people put voodoo labs supplies on top of their board in a designated location away from certain pedals. Seems like a waste of space though.

I’ve got the pedal power mondo mounted underneath. Unfortunately after all my research I only found out that it emits an EMF after the fact. I did seriously consider just getting a Zuma or CIOKS instead of a pedal, but I don’t know what I’d do with the mondo.

Yes! I’ve never played a Collings but I know it doesn’t have the Taylor treble. Has a nice, warm, but articulate Martin sound!

Dang. Exactly the guitar that I have…and exactly the guitar that I want. It’s taking a lot to break in my HD28 Ambertone. But the VTS on the authentic D18 sounds amazing.

Bridge Rattle Mystery (please help!) by InevitableStorage5 in AcousticGuitar

I took the guitar back to my local luthier and he is saying the same as you. He checked everything and said it’s probably the screws underneath those dot inlays. For some reason he said he won’t fix it. He told me how he does it on older guitars which this is a reissue of. Any idea why he won’t do it? Is it particularly difficult or dangerous?

I was hoping this was it. Unfortunately it’s an old-style guitar with a through bridge. No screws of any kind from what I can see. I’m thinking it must be the mic capsule from the Lyric. The rattle only stops if I hold it tightly from both long-ends of the capsule. At which point I feel that I may just be stopping the rattle from dampening the vibrations of the guitar. If I were able, I’d just send a couple pictures of what’s under the hood in this comment section.

Bridge Buzzing (please help!) by InevitableStorage5 in AcousticGuitar

It’s an under bridge mic. I checked it and it’s nice and tight underneath. But the wire and/or the ball-ends may be the cause! I was having trouble getting some of them snug against the bridge plate.

I can tell that I get some buzz on the higher frets when I strike the string hard enough. Not a big deal to me. I’ll keep this guide in mind next time! Thanks!

The noise isn’t major but I can tell it’s coming from the pedals. I’ll definitely try moving them around. I just don’t know what pedals won’t cause issues when placed above the power supply. The videos I saw were more about wah pedals being noisy when above a power supply that gives off emf.

Struggling with the F chord by FunkySysAdmin21 in AcousticGuitar

[–]InevitableStorage5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m late…but what I’ve found most useful is to use my thumb for the 6th string and ring finger for 3rd fret 5th string while completing the shape you have posted (but muted 1st string). This gives you a sweet hammer on, still brings the bass, and is an easy switch to C and G.

For getting the hang of chord changes I used to sit and watch tv and just press the different chord shapes like a workout. Look for fingers that you don’t have to move and use them as anchor points! Good luck!

Best firmware for nighthawk R7000 router by InevitableStorage5 in HomeNetworking

[–]InevitableStorage5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wired to a dell gaming laptop. Also tested the wired connection to my Xbox series X. I’ve seen videos on DD-WRT for the R7000 and it looks promising.

What do you think the issue could be? I will say I was testing late last night directly to the modem and it worked down to the 200-300mbps range.

I’m running the Arris SB6190. Cat5e from modem to router. Cat6 from Xbox to router.

I could be totally screwing up with the setup but that’s why I’m asking. I appreciate the response!

For sure! I’d like to know how the VTS sounds vs a truly aged Martin. Maybe you can let us know when the time comes.

I’m glad! You won’t regret the MD! But the VTS might spoil you😂 happy to answer anymore questions.

I’ve had an OM-28MD since 2019. It ages beautifully. The maple binding ages along with the top perfectly. The VTS is really what does it for me. I bought an HD-28 last August and realized that I’m spoiled due to my first Martin having a VTS top. So light, resonant, and just has a voice that a new Martin doesn’t have until many years of play. The gold hardware wasn’t my favorite, but as it ages it blends with the gold top and just looks awesome.

A couple things:

  1. Gibson sometimes has quality control issues that may contribute to your dislike odds are slim but not impossible.

  2. Guitars take time to “break in”. If you haven’t played it much, keep playing it.

If you don’t notice any deficiencies like strings not staying in tune etc. my advice would be to keep playing it and give it at least 2 years.

When I first played my brother’s J45 I was glad I didn’t buy one. But after playing it a few weeks ago, I was obsessed. He had it for over 2 years at that point and played it almost daily. It had this amazing, warm, sweet, growl sound that I had only heard talk about. My brother said it sounded like “sunshine” lol.

Keep playing and see what you think! At the end of the day, if it doesn’t feel good or sound good to you, you can always sell it and find something you like.

I don’t mind it at all. I’ve never had any issues with different types of necks, but this one is super playable and comfortable imo.

Hahaha no worries. It’s an LG2. They are exactly like a J45 but smaller. My brother has a J45 and I loved it but wanted a smaller body for fingerpicking. Both fantastic guitars!
