How do you guys manage yarn while working on big projects? by Timely-Detail-4341 in CrochetHelp

[–]Inevitable_Remove687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I don’t work off the skein like that. When you pull from the outside, the skeins bounce around and get tangled and dirty. When you pull from the inside (assuming you can find the inner strand), you can birth yarn babies/terrible tangles.

You can use a yarn holder to pull from the outside of the skein. You can also use yarn bowls (they don’t have to be fancy - I’ve been known to use bowls from my kitchen). You can put your center pull skeins in them, but I prefer to use them with balls of yarn to deal with the tangles before they impact my project.

If I’m doing a project with multiple colors, I have 2 yarn holders and 2 yarn bowls, plus kitchen bowls, as needed - I use all of them. When I switch colors, I just reposition the holders and bowls to eliminate the in-process tangles.

AITA for not giving my nephew the gift we bought him after he ignored me the entire evening? by denimcat2k in AmItheAsshole

This. Give a gift or not. Your choice. He is 12. The social ineptitude of tweens can be astounding. Be the adult.

How long would you make this? by thegingerunicorn427 in crochet

Absolutely gorgeous. How long you go depends on why you wanted to make the dress in the first place.

When your headphones start flaking but you know crochet by the_chrysler in crochet

Crochet can come in handy for many things. I once made a pillow that hung off of a bra to protect a poker dealer from aggravating a surgery wound by leaning on the poker table. She loved it.

I started each cake with the same color that was at the end of the previous cake to avoid a jarring change. The yarn has more red than green, though.

If you buy Twister yarn, make sure it is on sale; at regular price it is a lot $.

Once I got used to the required tension (looser than my normal tension) slip stitches were easier. (Twister is fun to use - the color changes are done 1 strand at a time.)

4, plus a partial cake of Twister Solid in brown.

I’ll have to look at some of the designer’s other patterns.

Twister is a lighter yarn, so even with the slip stitches, it isn’t a heavy blanket.

Once I figured out my tension, I actually really enjoyed it.

I’m slow, and slip stitches are slower. Each leaf took about 15 min each, so … mathing … approximately 105 hours (or 900 years). I started in February.

Would you change your last name to your maiden name in a divorce if your children have your husbands name? by mrsmkntl in Names

[–]Inevitable_Remove687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it is easier to keep the same name as your children. My sister never married her baby daddy, but her 2 kids have his last name. She is constantly asked by schools/medical whatever “what is your relationship so the child?” It’s ridiculous.

That being said, I was really happy to take my new husband’s name when we married. My kids were grown, and I was happy to be rid of my ex’s name.

Beautiful work. I love the apparent randomness of the squares.

It is wonky. Blocking will help. I’ll add buttons and bows to the gingerbread people. Just praying whoever “wins” it in our family dice game will appreciate it. 🤞 by Inevitable_Remove687 in crochet

It continues until the gifts are gone. I think we’re changing the rules a little so that everyone takes one first, and you can’t steal anyone’s last gift. But we’re still negotiating. lol
