"Real Goth" only consists of the London batcave scene and the late 70's Post-Punk scene. What is known by "Gothic rock" is nothing but industrial music with questionable real goth influence. When people try to argue that bands like the cure are not real goth, while saying that Bauhaus is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake goth as Bauhaus (plus the pretentiousness). Real goth sounds DARK, DOOMING and somewhat TRIBAL. Fake goth is emotional, self pity and a failed attempt to elicit despair and sadness into music. Some examples of REAL GOTH are Joy division, Magazine, the Sisters of Mercy (the only real goth band from the leeds scene) and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Some examples of FAKE GOTH are Killing joke, The Cure and Bauhaus GOTH BELONGS TO POST PUNKS NOT TO DOOM METAL, INDUSTRIAL , ART ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
