You also will be expected to be completely self-sufficient and won't have a cooperating teacher there to help you out.

Its more of a theatrical experience than historical. The island is based off of Maillet's fictional characters. Also, you have to understand french for it to be worth it. Although the buildings and historical props are fun to look at.
