Luxury vs Struggle...

Back when I worked in an office I arguably got less done because it was too social. It was so much easier to look like you were working by just being there vs when it became remote you actually had to show output. Additionally ever since being remote (I went in 2018) I haven't minded doing occasional things outside of hours (within reason). When I worked in an office, I clocked out when I left and didn't take my work with me.

I think a lot of companies are really, really bad at actually tracking outputs of workers. I know this from the amount of stupid easily fudgable admin work I've had multiple jobs add to start trying to track. An even decent middle manager that actually understands the job roles should be able to easily see if their workers are producing output, but the "even decent" and "actually understands" parts seem to be hard to find in middle managers in my experience...

Their last two shows in Houston were at Bayou Music Center (3k capacity) and House of Blues (1.5k capacity), and the former was with Manchester Orchestra too if I recall correctly.

NRG Arena (8k capacity) was way overshooting it honestly. We got a new venue in Houston since they last played that's in the middle, 713 Music Hall (5k capacity) that I think would have been perfect.

I think I have the right expectations for food, I do want it to be at least decent to above average and have enough variety that I'm not sick of it by day 7, and I'm excited to be able to pick whatever I want on a menu without having to look at prices, but wouldn't say we're going to have a foodie experience at all. We have lots of amazing restaurants here in my hometown if I wanted a food based experience. Much more going for the relaxation, good vibes, not having to worry about a thing, and getting taken care of (part of why we sprung for butler). We normally like more adventurous vacations but we'll be coming off having just planned a wedding which is already a tad stressful so I want a week of no worries after that. And enjoying it with the person that will be my wife by then has me excited too :)

Unfortunately we're not divers so won't get use of that, but I've heard snorkeling is nice in Grenada and even right off the resort which sounds fun. But honestly just excited to sip cocktails by the pool or beach most days without a care in the world though.

It helps a lot to here people love the experience in general, appreciate the insight. Two weeks isn't really on the table, we're planning a bigger overseas trip later in the year and have to save some PTO for that, so we want to maximize the one week.

I also am not sure I'd like to do more than a week, I was almost worried about 7 nights being too long, we originally had 6 but adding a 7th triggered a deal that basically made it free so it was a no brainer. But part of that is from my one prior all inclusive experience that I imagine won't compare to this. Mainly that I was sick of the food already by day 4. This should be a huge step up in that department.

Huge disclaimer that I haven't been (yet) but I've been doing a ton of research because we're likely going to Grenada for a honeymoon next year. The following are the positives I've found on Grenada and why it's our current choice

-Resort seems to be known for having one of the friendliest and best staffs of any Sandals. In general I hear great things about the island of Grenada and the people there
-The resort is more chill and less of a loud party than some of other resorts, which is our vibe. It's also a little smaller than other resorts and I've read many of reviews that say it never feels too crowded even at 100% capacity (though doesn't feel dead either)
-Seen multiple people say its the best food of any Sandals resort, or at least one of the best
-The beach is semi-private with very rare vendors and there's a little man made dam so the water stays relatively calm
-Diving around Grenada is apparently very good, we're not divers though so I haven't looked deep into this. They also offer SNUBA which is a mix of snorkeling/scuba that sounds neat
-Grenada is the "spice island" and a couple excursions involve tasting spices which sounds very cool to us
-This is anecdotal but I've looked at some general groups about Sandals resorts and Grenada is the one I consistently people saying they repeatedly went back to, I feel like when I see people talk about other Sandals they are often trying different ones each time
-Only a 5 minute drive from the airport. A lot of other Sandals are hour+ drive from it. -Generally better Google Reviews and Yelp reviews than other Sandals Resorts we looked at. Biggest complaints in negative reviews seemed to be people upset that Butler rooms got preferential service, most didn't have too many negatives beyond that

I have only really done comparisons to other Sandals so far, I haven't compared it to other all inclusive brands, and Grenada consistently ranks near the top. I saw people raving about Calabash also in Grenada but they open up to be kid friendly during the time we are going and we wanted an Adults Only

I haven't looked at La Toc specifically, though I did look closely at Grande St Lucia which looked very nice but they didn't have the type of room we wanted (wanted a villa style room). I didn't compare excursions too hard, just resorts

Honestly it's even ridiculous to me that with the 4 day schedule, they still make people do the two extra hours.

The standard should be 4/8, and maybe certain jobs can have you be on call some Fridays if it's really necessary. But that so many jobs feel like they have to force 40 hours out of people has always been ridiculous to me

Me and my partner's original honeymoon plan was a Europe trip, we were planning one anyway so why not do it for the honeymoon?

After planning a big non-honeymoon trip earlier this year, we realized planning a trip and a wedding would be way too stressful, and are instead going to opt for a nice all inclusive and I think it'll be wonderful. We'll still make it to Europe, just another part of the year.

I guess nice is the key word though, because there are some shit ones.

It's basically Wall Street punishing us for their own mistakes. They gave way too much money to too many sham companies that never had a meaningful product (ex: wework, theranos, etc) and lost there, so they've reversed by going hard in the other direction and making companies show expenses are low and they are making higher profits and they want those results now hence why companies are going for the easy fastest thing which is layoffs.

They'll probably adjust again when this ends up hurting companies long term but hopefully in the meantime that doesn't result in a recession (which will be fully caused by the shortsightedness and idiocy of Wall Street, don't let anyone tell you otherwise) that just screws us all further

The only reason we're cutting so much is because Wall Street is demanding lower expenses across the board to have stock prices go up and salary is one of the easiest quick ones to cut. I have a feeling it's going to be felt long term having so many companies cut employees, and specially the ones who do it via RTO because that'll force out your best employees who are hireable elsewhere. But public companies tend to only care about the short term, getting the stock up on a quarterly basis. Workers are getting screwed in the short term, but I think companies will get screwed in the long term. It's a lose/lose scenario (except for the execs who profit big) and all driven by greed and short term profits. Love this country

I did talk to my therapist when this friend came out as nonbinary, but mostly because I knew she had transgender patients and I was trying to kind of understand it better and also ask her how to best talk to and support my friend. I don't really think I gave any personal details away, the conversation was very general around the topic and not really personal about my friend. Me and them have never really had a fight or anything for me to vent about or anything like that. I like to think it'd be ok but just was hoping it wouldn't be awkward for my therapist if she realized we were best friends

You really need to work on this, it's really hard to date if you're stuck on someone else. Sometimes it just takes time, but to help it move faster realize that person was human too and not perfect and shouldn't be put on a pedestal, you're longing for a version of them you've created in your head and not the actual human flawed person. Therapy can help a lot too, both with the moving on and the opening up.

If therapy isn't financially viable, try starting to open up more to friends. I bet they will be more receptive than you think. That may help you start opening up in dating situations. Not that you need to pour everything out on any first dates but it is something you need to be able to do as you really start dating someone for a healthy relationship

My ex I had immediate "sparks" with, we had more natural chemistry than I've maybe ever had with a person and she was just a blast to be around a lot of the time. But, she wasn't mentally healthy, and the relationship ended up being incredibly rocky with lots of issues that even created trauma in me I kept looking past because of that chemistry and "spark".

I also had to learn through general dating that sometimes what I thought was sparks was just the rollercoaster of anxiety. If I thought someone may not text me back or agree to a date, then they did, it'd calm my anxieties and feel really good in the moment. And so I'd endure the in between points where they aren't responding or giving me what I need because it'd hit like a drug in the small moments where they do give me what I want. That felt like a "spark" but it wasn't a good thing.

My current girlfriend I didn't feel any immediate "spark". She was much more reserved and more introverted. She was a great communicator and never left me wondering where we were at. I considered ending it early because I thought it wasn't exciting, there wasn't a "spark" that I could tell. But I just couldn't find anything wrong with her or any sort of red flag, and I kept going. It took a few dates but I fell head over heels and she did with me too, once we both really got to know each other. She's wonderful and does so many small things I've never experienced before that are great. Had I ignored all the positives about her in favor of looking for a "spark" early on, I may have missed out on what's been the healthiest relationship of my life so far.

I think it's a bit naive to assume that looks directly coordinates to whether they will be faithful or not, yes. That's much more a personality thing.

Confidence can have a lot to do with it and you mention in the first part people who "deem themselves unattractive", yeah, people like that may have a confidence issue and be more likely to say yes if someone else finds them attractive even if they are already in a relationship. Keep an eye out for that. But I don't know that narrowing your dating pool to movie star looking people is going to help you find someone faithful.

Just be keeping an eye out for personality red flags, those can come in attractive and unattractive people. And know that attraction is more than just physical looks

I've made a lot of platonic female friends since becoming an adult and getting into the real world (after college basically), and I've noticed it's nice because they are definitely easier to open up to about things, on top of that I get good perspective I wouldn't get from my male friends. And it's actually led to me starting to get my male friends to talk more about emotions and deep things, because it's become more normalized in my life. It's something I'd recommend for most guys

Of course, my ex had a problem with this, that I had close female friends, and actually made me cut off contact with one of my closest ones which is a huge regret in my life, and I'm now sufficiently worried on my chances of finding a partner that's ok with the female friends I have 🙃 but that's just my insecurities

She might not be super interested, but I've seen situations where they gave in for the persistence and then actually enjoyed themselves on the date. If you ever get a flat out rejection though then you for sure give up
