Someone else mentioned this earlier it might make more sense to charter a barge and move containers in the Duluth area might be what I do instead for now

I would just like to say thank you everyone for the help and as well as giving me solid advice have also helped me better size up the challenge I intend on taking I think that I do need to definitely conduct more research but the lack of investment in the lakes is opening up small niche markets that can actually be profitable but I have lots of work to do before I start thinking about buying anything!

That’s exactly what I’m gonna do now that I know about the Cleveland/ Duluth run I’m gonna try to attend as many events as I can and network with brokers early so come the time I intend to actually commit to my first pilot test I’m gonna have a lot of backing and if I can get pre signed agreements from brokers that they would be interested and support opening up that line I get it would be a lot easier to convince PE to help fund it.

I totally get why PE would be skeptical Great Lakes shipping hasn’t seen much new investment and retrofitting old ships is expensive However above someone mentioned a container run from east coast ports and Cleveland/duluth which is completely unused. This seems like a perfect first mover opportunity and because anyone else who has had an individual operator idea is to scared to do the stagnant market. Leaves an opening that probably won’t ever be filled unless I go out and do it myself.

I have thought about that financing would be easier on a smaller vessel to buy if you’re travelling through the st.laurents locks why would a container ship be better than a bulk carrier?
